I used to use startx, the permissions are 755, adding write permissions would
not help

I should be able to run it as any user by doing a network install, but can't do
that because I can't login as any other user from the command line.

xinit and xdm don't run, currently kdm runs, which lets me get along. But I
still wan't to correct this damn problem! It is persisting even after I
uninstalled star office.
