Hi there,
Firstly, the mail is intended for people who like to peek and try out
things :-) Whenever there is a problem in configuring hardware
in Linux, check out the Linux Hardware Compatibility howto. It is
always a good idea to check out the http://www.linuxdoc.org for
updated HOWTO's. Usually the driver is available, unless it is a
rarely used card or a new one. And if it is compatible, then the
module to be used for that and relevant links are also given. If not
atleast you are directed to some location for finding the relevant
information. And usually the kernel source code is also installed. A
look at /usr/src/linux/Documentation/[networking,sound,etc..] will
contain info about what cards are suppported and how to configure them
including pnp cards and modules needed. Follow the instructions and
try out different values of io,irq etc and once it works fine. You are
on. save those settings somewhere you can collect later when
needed. This is independent of any distribution. Well, that's I how I
am able to live with Corel, SuSE, RedHat and debian at the same time.
I rarely use linuxconf, sndconfig or any other tool b'coz it is so
much fun otherwise.
As I said b4 this mail is intended for people who like to try out. I Know I know
desktop users might not want to do it, but it also depends on your
enthu. :-)
HTH
Regards
- Khader
