You mean your /tmp is 1.6 GB?
Or the total space is 1.6 GB? [I installed my SuSE on 1 4 GB partition
and I am allocating it the rest of the HDD soon. I love this distro].
May be you _are_ running out of space?

Don't know about this Chip CD but the distro is fantastic! May be there
is something  we are missing very naively?

Not a merit of REd Hat or a disadvantage of SuSE. You should look for
total installed size. Again, I have never seen this CD but I am sure
that this has more to do with us rather than the distro.

Check the size of software that you are installing.
What is the size of HDD? {most important]
