Hi khader,
        Thanks for the suggestion , I was able to connect to the port on
uncommenting the specified entries. I also executed the killall command as
specified by you but it says "no processes killed" on reading the pid from 
/var/run/inetd.pid .Help! 
 Further how do I go about configuring the POP3 server.
When I telnet to localhost:110 , I get the following msg.

Connected to localhost
Escape character '^]' .
Connection closed by foreign host.

This obviously means that I need to configure the POP3 server(which I
don't know) 'n that the port is open.
Previously I had RHL 5.2 where I never faced this problem.I tried
linuxconf also(no use).
