Hi,

Try to comment out the following two lines in startkde script :

#startifaudio kaudioserver
#startifaudio kwmsound 

Below this add the following two lines :

kaudioserver &
kwmsound &  

Now sound in KDE should work. It works for me. In SuSE I get excellent Midi sounds. In 
Redhat
I was not able to play Midi files.
