Hi phrends,
Decided yesterday to get back to good ol'
RH 6.1 - PCQ CD. Wonder of wonders, after installation
I find there is no gcc. egcs I did not install. So there
is no cc and kernel compilation was not possible. Well I
looked around the PCQ CD and there is no gcc*.rpm in the
CD. There is one in the Chip - SuSE, but it says it requires
package "c_compiler" to be installed!!! So is it a flaw with
the PCQ distibution or is it the case with RH that only egcs
has to be used... Also could someone point out the diff's b/w
the two and why a particular "C" file, when compiled in turns
with each of the above, gives results as below:

compiled with executable size
gcc 12088
gcc - stripped 8996
egcs 33041
egcs - stripped 13196

As is evident the gcc compiled executable is *MUCH* smaller than even the
egcs "compiled and stripped" executable... why???

TIA ... Narain.
