Uh, BeOS is all out GUI. On what other O/S can you do the kind
of image rendering/manipulation and other stuff at the speed that you
can on Be?
IMHO, with the proper hardware that Be wants, like RivaTNT or
whatever .. running it gives you the -BEST- output, than on -any
other- OS ... again, I'm not saying linux sucks or anything... This is
just an opinion..

    Kisalay> ), I have used. You wouldn't believe it but I downloaded
Kisalay> the entire OS even before CHIP could distriibute it. It

Whats to not believe? =p It's just a 46 megs or something.

                03:27:51 (31.96 KB/s) - `<censored>.zip' saved [139192190]
                ravi@madras:~$ du -sh cdstuff
                133M cdstuff

There you go, 133 MB of 540 MB that I'm downloading to write
into a cd <g> And before you jump out of your skin, no, its not my
14.4 dialup connection that did that 31.96 KB/s ... hehe

Kisalay> was a huge 43 MB download, but it was worth it. It could

Yup, I think so too, I -saw- and -worked with- Be 5.0 on a
buddies' box .. and even I think the download is worth it... gonna go
get the May CHIP sometime, though. BTW, does the may CHIP have
BeOS5-PersonalEdition.exe or does it have BeOS4Linux.tar.gz ?
Why is Be packaging it in *.tar.gz though? I'd have preferred
bz2 .. duh

Kisalay> be the next best competitor to Windo'ze if only they

They'd probably beat windows ... but for MS's stronghold on
industry standards, and MS Word, which IMNSHO is -still- -anyday-
better than anyother .doc creator [ note that I said, ".doc creator"
.. not "editor" ... I still like vim for its lightness/speed ... and
XEmacs for the GUI/jazz/and supposed power ,... ]
that I have seen.

Kisalay> could make it open source. Please put me posted on the
Kisalay> news about this amazing OS as well as the BE lists.

Look at /. once in awhile =p

Kisalay> resisting this one. ( I am new to the list anyway ). I

        Welcome to the list :>

Kisalay> am appreciating this OS only because it auto-detected all
Kisalay> my system components, which Linux hasn't been yet able to

Hmm, I've practically seen Be dying when it comes to detecting
NICs and have heard so, from a few buddies, too.

Kisalay> to get my YAMAHA - YMF724 ( PCI ) sound card configured,

HEH! Yamaha cards generally suck ; I have one, too.... <g>

Kisalay> but have been unable to do it as yet. ). Just downloaded
Kisalay> ALSA yesterday, will give it a try. ( If anybody's been
Kisalay> successful, please mail me the procedure ). I did search
Kisalay> the arch's but all of them have a Yamaha - OPL s/c.

Hey, I've not tried ALSA on my box .. I have a Yamaha OPL3-SAX
.. a Rs.900 buck Cheap guy's apathy for a sound card... but well ... I
run it on my $crappy-box ... where all I do is preview OSes that I
haven't seen before... and once I like it enough, I install it on my
working box, this one :>
PS : Doesn't look like debian is -ever- gonna leave this box
:D

    Kisalay> Also, I managed to play 6 mp3's and 2 videos
Kisalay> simultaneously on BeOS, and still keep working on it. (
Kisalay> Let's see doze' do it.)

Yup, my point exactly. Be is -way- too cool when it comes to
this.

    Kisalay> For those interested, I have a P!!! - 450 with 128 MB SD
    Kisalay> ( 100 MHz ) and a ZX m/b.

        Hehe, P!!! <--
And looks like I could use some of your RAM <g>

    Kisalay> Bye, Kisalay. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
