run ntsysv and turn off linuxconf, kudzu, crond and a few other services.

It took care of a _lot_ of my headaches - installed smoothly with the RPM,
filtering is beautiful (spam filtering, bitbucketing idiots you want to
block from your system etc etc).
Shut down linuxconf and then try this.
