whats the type of your first Partition. if its FAT32 then Lilo will not get
Installed in the Master Boot Partition. I am also facing the same Problem
with one of my Friends machine. Hence I used a floppy to Load Linux.
for Booting from Harddisk you have convert the First Partition to FAT16
type.
if you want partitions of more the 2GB and also want to Load lilo in master
boot partition then do one thing
make first partition of 200-300 MB of type FAT16 and then make larger
partions after that. they can be of any type EXT2 , FAT32 etc.

(Please Correct me if I am worng anywhere or if there's something better
than this)

Note :maximum size of a partition in FAT16 is 2GB. and Lilo cannot be Loaded
in FAT32 or NTFS
