Two or three things -
1. Backup your sendmail.cf _before_ changing anything - that especially
goes in case you use linuxconf for it.
2. Check /var/log/maillog and /var/spool/mqueue for signs of what is
causing the delay
3. Try restarting sendmail once or twice -
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail restart
