[LIH] DMA error

[linux]

hi all,
        i have just installed  "best linux" which has  kernel version
2.2.13 . after installation i tried to mount my cdrom. it said
hdb: timeout waiting for DMA.
 
i waited for another 5 mins but nothing happened. the system sort of
freezed, and i had press the reset button.

can somebody tell me what the reason for this could be,
