Hi,
Most probably u have configured your system to start in X-windows
and X is not configured properly. If so start Linux with init level 3,
you will get into text mode and then configure X . If still problem
persists search the LIH archieves for subject "Monitor blinks intext
monitor" you will get some more reasons for this to happen.
