You are right on that point.

Linuxconf is known to dump the (in)famous core. I have experienced
it many times => it is not yet fully stable. 
Imagine configuring 'sendmail' thru linuxconf, and you get a core 
dump. What happens of your sendmail.cf ? You don't even know whether
the changes have been committed. The only option is to regenerate 
sendmail.cf using m4.

Also, linuxconf follows the somewhat philosophy of Windows. 
Giving you the abstract picture, and hiding the details.
If you start using linuxconf, you face difficulties changing
any files manually, 'cause you are not sure of what was changed
when you ran linuxconf last time.
