[LIH] Firewall Config

Has anyone configured a firewall on LINUX  and using it..to surf the web or
as a server..??? what is their experience regarding the security of the
linux box..
 I am preparing to do it.. So i would love to know some one's experience in
this field..
I have heard that BSD Unix is far more reliable from a security point of
view than Linux.. any opinions..
