Check if your xmms version has any bugs. I use xmms-1.0.1 and it's quite
stable (no crashes or lockups in 2 months). Or maybe some other program
you're running as an applet that is running into loops?

can never say. just a small change in the bios can trigger something
off. The generic kernels nearly never have support for your particular
brand of buggy bios/chipset enabled by default.
by the way can you tell me for how long can i run my box continuously

I've not used a tomato board, but P-166MMX, PII-333, PIII-800,933, K2-400
can all run more than a month non stop on SiS/VIA/Intel chipsets. But
probably things will vary with brand of the motherboard as the circuits
vary between them even with same chipsets.

most probably you'll just have to stop apmd from starting up at boot
time. With a laptop you might have had to change the kernel, but probably
that is not necessary for a desktop. Anyway, alernate kernels are probably
there on your installation CD, just change the kernel package to a one
without apm support (or if you prefer wade through hundreds of
yes/no/module choices and make your own kernel). Another test is run in
console mode and check if the machine freezes (and not the least keep a
tab on netscape).

bad luck, wish better luck soon ;-)
