After a lot of stupid observation what i cud conclude was this :

1. XMMS keeps a playlist. not sure of XMMS but read that winamp's palylist
cud go upto 26 megs and more. Assuming the same for XMMS.
2. XMMS runs in two modes Random'ed playlist and Contiguous playlist
traversel.
3. System used to freeze in the former mode (count of songs in the list
~1000). Maybe because of instantaneous shift from one location in mem to
another.
4. System does not (as of now) freeze if playlist is run in the latter mode
or the number of songs in the list is lesser in the former mode.

By now you must have concluded. let me know if this stupid logic makes sense
to you.
