the modem is not blown out, open the modem, and find two fuse-resistors
(costs around 25 ps) just near the line jack (probably black and burnt out)
remove those and put new ones (some 1k is the value) i think if GVC,
otherwise try to decode the color code
if unfamiliar with soldering etc consult a technician :-)
