I dont think the variations are significant - u  have to accept a 5% 
variation in hdparm results not because its different partitions but because 
its separate test instances . For e,g repeat hdparm -t /dev/hdaN 3 times and 
there will be 3 results. 

The significant variation is between /dev/hda and /dev/hdaN
