hi,
810 chipsets 810e and dc100 models all work perfectly fine with Xfree86.
The problem is the old version kernels before 2.2.14 and Xfree86 3.x deos
not have proper support for i810 based video cards.if you are using redhat
6.2 make sure the agpgart module is loaded and upgrade X to Xfree86 4.02, or
above.to run the X server u will have to configure it first.otherwise you
will get his error message
>Fatal error: No Screen found!
just type XFree86 -configure and if succesful you will find a XF86Config.new
file in root's home directory.copy this file to /etc/X11/XF86Config and you
would able to start X now.to make changes to resolution you will have to edit
the /etc/X11/XF86Config file's screen section.every thing else is
automatically recognised by XF86 4.x.with XFree86 3.x you will find it tough
to configure X on i180 as it needs a lot more hacking of the config file.I
would also advise you to upgrade the kerlen in rh6.2 to 2.2.19 which has
better agp support,if you should stick to rh6.2,or upgrade the distro to
redhat 7.1 or mandrake8.0 or any of the latest suse or caldera.they all ahve
excellent plug and play support for i180 motherboards.
to get better performance and dri and glx support and truetype support etc,
make sure you set the DefaultColorDepth to 16 the modules for
dri,glx,type1,freetype etc are loaded. and the Option DRI directive should be
used for DRI support.u can add as much videoram as you want for better dri
performance for 3dgame support.on my 810 board with 4mb agp ram .I allocate
12000 of video ram for dri to work.also make sure to run the X font server as
the default config will use fonts from a xfs running on localhost.all the
best.
regards
sanjeev
