modutils surely needs an upgrade, the rh-6.2 default insmod cannot load
the kernel modules for 2.4 up. Moreover theres been changes in the ppp
kernel module aswell, so the user space cousin also needs an upgrade ( i
think for added features, but the old one might still work ).

  I guess even a new version of make needs to be installed dont remember
