Yeah  by default  exim starts  thru  inetd. But  I never  run it  like
that. comment that entry from /etc/inetd.conf and "update-rc.d -f exim
defaults" do the stuff. 

I was suggesting exim to Rajesh since exim have that auth built in. No
need to recompile and all.

I  am using  exim  3.35 now.   I  will check  the  backports for  exim
