I have mandrake linux 9.1 and ASUS A7N8X deluxe MB with nforce chipset Athlon
2400. I have two harddisks. one in hda and other in hdb. Previously I had
i815 intel
board. There it is shown as udma5 for both. Now I get as udma2
only.Accordingly hdparm -tT values are less.
Previously I had
[EMAIL PROTECTED] lvgandhi]# hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 1.42 seconds = 90.14 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 2.30 seconds = 27.83 MB/sec
[EMAIL PROTECTED] lvgandhi]# hdparm -tT /dev/hdb

/dev/hdb:
 Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 1.42 seconds = 90.14 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.59 seconds = 40.25 MB/sec
Now I have
[EMAIL PROTECTED] lvgandhi]# hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.43 seconds =297.67 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 4.18 seconds = 15.31 MB/sec
[EMAIL PROTECTED] lvgandhi]#
[EMAIL PROTECTED] lvgandhi]# hdparm -tT /dev/hdb

/dev/hdb:
 Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.43 seconds =297.67 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 2.19 seconds = 29.22 MB/sec
As can be seen buffered disk read has come down 30 to 50%.
I have used hdparm -c1 -u1 -d1 -X 69 /dev/hda and hdparm -c1 -u1 -d1 -X 69
/dev/hdb in /etc/rc.local. Still udma status has not changed.
what to do to change udma status to its true value.
