Good enough. What does hdparm -tT gives? It's a simple ebnchmark so run it 
while you are not doing anything else..

You can turn it to 32 bit but I doubt how much difference that would make..

That's not HDD.. Get a shining new kernel and it will be warp 10 then..:-)

Usually /sbin/hdparm -d1 /dev/hda in /etc/rc.d/rc.local is sufficient. Rest 
kernel will figure it out..
