Somewhere i read that hotmail is not using M$ product

Yes they run qmail for their outgoing mails. I don't know if they use FreeBSD or Solaris, but they can never run hotmail on MS applications alone :)

They used to. These days all their outgoing is through IIS as well.

Any one know what yahoio uses?

Yahoo uses qmail on FreeBSD.

They have a lot of freebsd committers (and a lot of people from the php / mysql projects) working for them.

Rediff uses qmail on Soloris (I think).

Yup. Russ Nelson configured qmail for them - I think he still consults with them about this install.

vsnl uses Postfix on Digital Unix (or Compaq Tru64).

A very old postfix patched with LDAP. In fact a vsnl guy (former vsnl guy I guess) wrote the LDAP code for postfix.

... and we (indiainfo.com, email.com etc etc) = postfix 2 frontend, qmail backend on FreeBSD (and some linux here and there)
