Thanks, John for the advice. Here's what my team mate did to get ALSA working for our sound card: 1. Build the 2.6.15 kernel on Gentoo without ALSA support. 2. Install ALSA from source. 3. Emerge aplay and test that sound works 4. Write a custoer /etc/asoundrc file for 5.1 sound. I haven't access to the /etc/asoundrc file at the moment, I'll upload it to the list once I have access to this file.
