here itself, you could ave gone into linux and did a rewrite of the mbr with
lilo
and saved a lot of work for you with easy removal of the boot sector virus.

loadlin is there on the linux distro cd, find that and the generic kernel
and
give loadlin <kernel_file> root=device_id ro vga=3
and it should boot into the old installaiton.
do a lilo
then reboot the system
