No, I haven't tried this. I didn't get a disk with the board, but
maybe someone else has it at work. Thanks for the tips, I'll give it
a try.

Steve Jobs didn't come up with the GUI either. He has openly admitted he
left his vist to the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center totally awed by the GUI
he saw there. Jobs and Gates both ran with someone elses idea. They are
both snake oil salesmen.

Windows IS popular among most computer users. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be
the top of the commercial OS heap. But as I explained in my previous post,
thanks to Bill G., most computer users now are spoon-fed dorks who can't even
read the instructions printed on the VCR about how to set their clocks.
People who can't read that Compact Disk Logo that is printed on the front of
their CD-Roms, and think that the retractable tray is like their car's coffee
cup holder, and in all reality have no business using computers.

I have a zoom 56k flex modem upgraded to v.90. It performs quite well but
sometimes it locks up. I then have to turn it off and back on again. This
gets frustrating because it is in another part of the building.
Any suggestions? Do I need a specific init string?

Hi,
Thanks to Taylor's pointer on rvplayer. After inspection, it turns out I have not
exported LD_LIBRARY_PATH. So its available to my shell but not to rvplayer. Iam
able to play stuff using rvplayer including live audio. But unfortunately cat
some.au > /dev/audio or cat some.au > /dev/dsp or saytime would it work. As
I mentioned before there is no error message either. (For example, if I do a rmmod
sound and try it, I get an error something like "operation not permited). I have my
/etc/isapnp.conf & cat /proc/sndstat included for your reference. I just do not
understand WHY!
Yes Colin, I have /dev/audio support enabled in Kernel.
I also got around the X probelm. Thanks to John, I did a chmod +s on XF86_SVGA
& that worked.
For some reason, after the XFree installatin, I had X missing so I softlinked it
myself. My make xconfig still does not work!
Thanks, nram

there's always xlockmore. but most people do not use screensavers
with linux. screensavers steal cpu power which you might want to use
for background tasks.
i set mine up to first blank and later power-save the monitor after
inactivity. i leave my box up 24/7 so there's never any question of
if i left it on or off.

run level 2: Standard run level for Debian GNU/Linux
run level 3: Standard run level for every other distro I can think of
run level 4: ?????
run level 5: ? on some systems, graphical login in others.
