Do you use SuSE 6.0? There is a problem with samba 1.9.18

Use 'fg' or 'bg', depending on whether you want the suspended job to
resume in
the foreground or background. If you forgot about the job number, find
the job number using
"jobs" then resume the job you want using "fg %<job nr>", e.g. "fg %2"

I just bought a new motherboard and a K6-2 300. I've seen some posts in
this newsgroup about random problems with K6 CPUs and Linux, but the
Linux HOWTO index does not have any definitive information.
Are there any problems running Linux on the AMD K6-2 processors? Is
there anything special I must do to the kernel to get proper CPU support?
Thanks!

Thanks for this discussion I detected an intrusion into my system. Several
users were inserted into /etc/passwd and a root kit was planted. It took
some effort to clear them all since they are sort of invisible.
See the man page of hosts.deny, hosts.allow, tcpd, inetd for starters.
There are so much to learn on security!

I'm trying to configure my machine to use a network printer and am
having no success with lpr. I've set up /etc/printcap to use either a
print server on a FreeBSD machine or to use the network printer directly
but neither method works. My /etc/printcap looks like

:mx#0:\
:lf=/dev/console:\
:lp=/dev/null:\
:sh:\
:rm=print.server.name.here:\
:rp=hp4000text:
Every time I try to print I get this message:
lpr: connect: Connection refused
jobs queued, but cannot start daemon.
The jobs get listed in my local print queue. There is no network
traffic when I run lpr; however, there is traffic when I run lpq or
lprm. Also, printing DOES work when I use rlpr and it's associated
tools. Anyone have an idea what might be going on with lpr/lpd?

Really any ?
So here's my 2cents:
I found that pine works best, when I recompile the sources with the
ALLOW_CHANGES_FROM option somewhere deep down pine/osdep/* (IIRC)
enabled and then change the From:-line in Preferences.
With other mailers I change the sendmail command to
/usr/sbin/sendmail -oi -t -oem -odd [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The Smart Relay Host in sendmail.cf is set appropriate, the
DeliveryMode is deferred.
This works for mutt and the slrn reply-function.
The only thing I do not like is the nasty X-Warning, as seen in the
header above.

I think lilo itself needs to be told the disk geometry.
Read the lilo.conf and lilo man pages. Also, the LargeDisk mini-HOWTO may

This is absolutely feasable. In fact if sendmail is installed and
started at boot time (eg like under RH5.2, but I'm not sure which distro
you are using), it is default. Just specify the SMTP server to be
localhost.
I'm sorry, I know this is the least of what you are wanting to do. I'm
sorry I cannot be of more assistance. However, what I can tell you is
this, all of the things you are saying sound reasonable, they just
require a bit of experienced know-how.
Read up and learn how to use all of the tools you mention. Learn each
one in turn, and then put them together to accomplish your goal.
I hope this helps...

Inconvenient, but survivable. Seems to work fine with the num-lock key

According to SAL.KachinaTech.com (Scientific Applications on Linux)
the only "big" stats name I can see is S-Plus. However there
are lots of other packages out there, some commercial, most
open source. As far as BIG jobs goes, I think ROOT from CERN
is probably the most capable package. XploRe looks interesting.

Please refrain from posting such bigoted, anti-Catholic nonsense. You
only hurt your own argument, as the analogy you attempt is flawed at a
fundamental level. If you'd like to know exactly how your analogy is
flawed, I would be happy to discuss this with you (or anyone else who

Many of us Catholics proudly support Open Source Software and oppose
the artificial constraints that monopolists such as MicroSoft attempt
to force upon all of us. Please think before you post - alienating
people in a misguided attempt to "evangelize" for OSS is *not* a good
idea.

under linux or viruses executable under Dos/Win32?
Linux viruses are rare to say the least. I know of only one which have
actually managed to spread. I doubt if there are any anit-virus programs
for linux viruses. Good security policies usually take care of the
problem.
As for software to scan for win32/Dos viruses in files located on a
Linux box, you'd have to check with the commercial companies: Network

Hi,
The system is RedHat 5.2 ( 2.0.36 kernel with autofs enabled ), Intel.
It contains am-utils-6.0a16-4 rpm ( and portmap-4.0-12 ).
After reading the /usr/doc/am-utils-6.0/am-utils.ps I think I need a kick
in order to be able to use it.
I would like to achieve the following :
/dev/fd0 auto-mounts as /mnt/floppyA
/dev/cdrom auto-mounts as /mnt/cdrom
In both cases with 10 seconds time to "auto-dismount" ( so that the user
can put a floppy or cd into the appropriate drive, "play" with it, and
then remove it ).
In case of /dev/fd0, I would like to mount it as "auto" ( it may be ext2,
or msdos, ro ... floppy inserted ), and I would like to give "any" user
"rw" privileges.
The current /etc/amd.conf ( as delivered with am-utils-6.0a16-4 ) is :
=========================
/defaults fs:=${autodir}/${rhost}/root/${rfs};opts:=nosuid,nodev
* rhost:=${key};type:=host;rfs:=/
=========================
which I think is not needed.
Could someone, please give me an example /etc/amd.conf which does what I
need ( up to now I've been using an autofs-3.1.1-4 rpm, but now I would
like to switch to amd, unfortunately I think I need a kick ... ).
Thanks in advance,
Jacek.
