I suggest installing ssh (ftp://ftp.cs.hut.fi/pub/ssh).
This can *securely* allow people into a box, either
using a password or using host-based authentication (client
must be in possession of a particular private key). Of
course, the client would need to have the ssh client
software.

Crack it. M$ will be laughed out of court if you bought it, then they

Intel's little stunt appears to be immutable if you buy their product.
People are therefore suggesting you don't. This will have the
side-effect of ensuring no one ever tries to pull anything similar.
That is all.

Try typing the password in all caps. I noticed under Redhat 5.2 that often
the password you specify in the install is actually saved off in all upper
case; when you try typing it without Caps Lock on, it bumps you out with an
incorrect password.

I"ve had EXACTLY the same problem, using both a 1.2 and 2.5 gig hdd I"ve tried

This is an important point, there are some bugs in Linux. The big
difference between Linux and M$ bugs is that we can count the Linux
bugs, and that we can count on them being fixed ;-)

Someone has set the i attribute. Use lsattr to view the file attributes
and chattr to change them. You'll probably want "chattr -i /bin/login"

There is that argument to be made -- but even if the start scripts
shouldn't need to be edited, the runlevel directories with their
symlinks *are* config "files" of a sort and belong in /etc. Since they
are in /etc it makes sense to put init.d there too, just so they're
close together.
Maybe what really struck me as strange when I saw OSF/1's scheme was
that they have *subdirectories* of a bin directory, which just ain't
normal....

I've always had similar problems with my Color Stylus Pro, the predescessor
to the 800. All the colors seem too dark, and blues are too purplish. This
is true under Win 95, with the original driver that came with the printer;
the newer driver included with Win 98; and whatever driver came with RH
5.2/Mandrake. So, I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem. The text
output looks a bit crisper under Linux, but the colors look the same.
It went in for repair once, for another problem. I complained about the
color problem at the time, and the colors looked a lot better when the
printer came back. Now, it's back to where it was. So, I think the problem
is with the nozzles becoming blocked or something. They probably did a
thorough cleaning at the factory. Epson says to be sure to turn the printer
off and on using its own power switch, so that it will go through its normal
self-cleaning cycle each time. I do that, but... I think these printers
are troublesome compared to HPs, and I wouldn't buy another. I wish HP
still built non-Winprinters.
One positive thing I can say about this printer is that the ink usage/cost
is very low.

So take the ciphertext, and burn it onto a CD. Now take the key, and
burn it onto a CD too. Don't label either, and tell a collegue to mix
them up whilst you close your eyes.
Now tell me which is the ciphertext, and which is the key, and therefore
which one is violating copyright, and which one isn't.

Subject: How do I print this .ps file
Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 19:01:01 +0000
I have been given several files which I need to print.
Trouble is, I have tried everything I can think of, and all I get is a
copy of the file printed - not the information contained therein. It
seems to be a Tex file, but I don't know enough to get it to work.
I have a suspicion that it might be a postscript file, but my Cannon
4300 doesn't do postscript.
Any pointers on how to proceed will be gratefully received.

The tar file has been compressed with bzip2. You need to uncompress it

If you upgrade to RH5.2, it comes with Netscape 4.07 on the CD.
Under RH 5.2 (and maybe 5.0) there is a command called 'usernetctl'
which is used to start and stop ppp (if you've got ppp working as root,
it should just work). Start and stop as follows:
/usr/sbin/usernetctl ppp0 up
/usr/sbin/usernetctl ppp0 down
And in RH 5.2 at least, there are also built-in choices of LessTif
and AfterStep in addition to fvwm95
Hope this helps a bit...

You copied it when you burned it onto your CD. However if the court cannot be
convinced that you copied it by the plaintiff, then you will not be convicted. The
law is not about theoretical arguements about definitions, but about applying then
to practical situations which people care enough about to bring to court. Nobody
