RedHat's installer doesn't let you install via FTP over a PPP
connection. You will have to download all the files you will need
ahead of time. Knowing exactly which files you need is not trivial,
so I suggest you just buy a CD-ROM instead and save yourself a lot of
headache. RedHat 5.2 CD is just $1.99 plus S&H at www.cheapbytes.com.

Depends. If you are talking about installing Linux *on* a DOS file
system, then RedHat won't do it, although Linux can be run on a DOS
filesystem in theory via the UMSDOS driver. I think there was a
simplified distribution dedicated to this purpose, but I forgot its
name. Such a installation is not recommended except as a trial system,
though; you really want to repartition your hard disk and give Linux
its own dedicated partition (and a swap partition) to play with.
On the other hand, if you merely want to be able to read and write to
DOS partitions while in Linux, then it's just a matter of specifying
that partition as a mountable DOS partition while using the RedHat
installer.

hi,
i am trying to connect to my isp and i am not sure what else i
have to do to be connected to internet..
here is what i did..
(1) setserial /dev/cua1 port 0x2e8 irq 10 autoconfig
and then i did minicom -s to config
(2) exit and then minicom's menu comes up that says
initializing modem...
(3)put number to dial and start dialing..
but modem doesn't make any nose and it doesn't do anything.
so I thought modem was at fault so I installed win98 on c: and try and
modem seem fine.
What is even more strange is that yesterday my computer was setup with
NT on C: and linux on hda5 and when i did above step and initialiezed
the modem, NT's modem wouldn't work...
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, this linux is driving me crazy. I am pretty good with
NT and Window but this is just killing me.........please somebody help
me with this problem or if this is not enough description please post
to specify what info you need.........
looking forward for your expert advice.........
thank you.............

XCOMM I've tried to organized and partition this Imakefile so it's easier
XCOMM to configure. Feedback is appreciated.
XCOMM
XCOMM First and foremost, please read the following files:
XCOMM
XCOMM "README.dll"
XCOMM "README.zlib"
XCOMM
XCOMM If your machine/OS isn't yet supported by the DLL modules, then
XCOMM you should also read these additional files:
XCOMM
XCOMM "cinepak.readme"
XCOMM "indeo.readme"
XCOMM "creative.readme"
XCOMM
XCOMM
XCOMM Then goto each Section and configure, comment, uncomment the defines
XCOMM as necessary. Some parts might have you search for a NOTE_* later
XCOMM on in the Imakefile and do something special there.
XCOMM
XCOMM When you are done, you just type "xmkmf" and then "make xanim".
XCOMM
XCOMM NOTE: some systems(like SGI) use the command "mmkmf" instead of
XCOMM "xmkmf" if they have Motif installed.

Maybe it says that it needs a version greater than or equal to something,
does it?

al right, this is getting tireing, just because it's a PCI modem
doesn't mean its a win modem. how to tell the difference.
pci winmodems have a modem enumerator<sp> and pci modems have a pci
serial device.
believe it or not
I have a pci modem
io=0x3f8
irq=5
it's on the pci bus so linux wont tuch it because it lacks support for
pci serial cards ( other than the multi-port cards ) it has a
rockwell based chipset. I only wish I knew C because this is the
perfect opertunity for me to contribut to the linux comunity.
