Sorry if my ignorance is showing, but I just want to make a more-or-less
image copy of my Linux disk, for disaster recovery (and do it quickly).
Sort of like DISKCOPY on DOS, but it would be nice if it let me copy to a
different size disk. Or it wouldn't even have to be a block-for-block image
copy, as long as the same software could restore it to the original disk, in
the original format, on demand.

Does such a utility come with Linux, or is such available elsewhere?

Thanks for any info -- Warren

Did you try forcing the keyboard out of raw mode (Alt-SysReq-r)

No. You could set up the tables on every machine but usually clients
on a LAN just have a permanent route set to their default gateway
(router). It is up to the router to decide what to do next. If your
link A-B is handled by the same router as you link to the internet
that is the end of the story as far as the clients are concerned. If
there are separate routers then the default router can use ICMP
redirects to inform the client that it should be using the other router.

That is all correct.

Samba on A and B won't do the job unless one is defined as the WINS
server and all the clients know about it.

If you have NT servers you can set up mutliple redundant WINS servers
but Samba won't work this way because Microsift have not realeased the
WINS replication protocol.

RH 5.1

All right! I finally figured out what's causing the xterm windows to
fail and the login to bomb. Somewhere I got a bad bunch of libraries
installed in /lib. Now here's the weird thing:

I copied a fresh library to /lib (I forget which one) and xterm came
up. Then I ran ldconfig to regenerate the cache and xterm quit working.

So what can I do to get fresh libraries installed? Will the RH update
hose any of my config? Can I just install the libraries off the CD? If
so, How?

This is my production server, so I can't really afford to play around
with this thing.

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated; I have spent way too much
time on this already :-(

Thanks

Hello all...
I'm having difficulties printing to my Samba networked printer from my
Windows NT Workstation SP4. The printer is physically connected to my
Linux box, and is /dev/lp0 and lpd is running and everything. Below is my
SMB.CONF file that SWAT has created for me:

[Epson Stylus Color II]
        path = /tmp
        print ok = Yes
==================
I can see the shares and use the mounted directories, and I added the
printer with "Epson Stylus Color ESC/P2" driver from Windows NT 4.0. The
Linux printtool I configured as "Epson Stylus Color - any". I also tried
the Uniprint driver but that didn't work.

If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. :)

Is there a chance that your system does a save-to-disk when
you close the cover and when you repartitioned for Linux
you trashed part or all of the DOS partition that the save
to disk is done to? - you could be writing over your
swap or something causing running programs to be corrupted

Simply use a "zero-filling" utility. These utilities write a zero to EVERY
position on the hard drive. Zero-fill utilities are usually part of the
hard drive manufacturer's utility disk. These can be downloaded freely from
Quantum, Western Digital, Seagate, etc websites. A generic utility that I
use is called wipe.exe. It is a DOS utility. Make a DOS bootable floppy
and place wipe.exe on it. Search for "wipe" on http://www.shareware.com.

Well, if your preference is _really_ for fewer keystrokes,

tar tzvf package.tar.gz

saves 8 keystrokes out of what you typed above, and for unpacking
<up-arrow> <CTL-A> 6 x <right-arrow> <backspace> <x> requires
two more, for a net savings of 6.

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a Web-Browser that I can use on an Sparc Station 5 that is
running on Sparc-Linux (Redhat 5.2).

Is here anybody, who can give me a hint, what is the best one to use on
such a system?
The bad thing is that one can't compile Netscape by himself. :-((

Forgot to mention that /bin/sh in RH5.0 is really just a link to bash.
Wonder if that's part of the problem?

However making software intuitive _can_ make the software
less efficient or effective. There is also that little matter
of what "intuitive" really means. The analogy I like is that
of someone going to a foreign country. They can either take
a lot of pictures with them and when they want to buy something
pull out the right picture and point to it while waving some
money. Or they can learn the language and ask for what they
want. Pretty pictures may be more "intuitive" but learning
the language is, in the long run, much more efficient.

Robustly presenting out point of view is not "being defensive".

That's because Windows' instability is a demonstrable fact. The
optimum trade-off point between intuitiveness and power is,
however, a matter of preference.

Exchange does such forwarding in a braindead way. At work, I forward
my mails from my Exchange account (using Inbox/Outbox assistant) to my
account in a unix server from which I use fetchmail to pull my mails
to my linux desktop. The problem is that when I finally receive the
emails in my email client program, it looks like the mail came from me
(my Exchange address) because Exchage mangles the email header to
remove the info about the real sender and replace it with my own
address. So if I reply, it will be sent to me :-( I don't know
of any good solution to this super-annoying problem.
