Basically you need to tell Netscape that you have a helper application
for real audio files. Go to Edit/Preferences and under
Navigator/Applications there should be a RealVideo file type. I believe
you click application and enter something like:

rvplayer %s

Subject: addition of system calls
Date: 7 Feb 1999 03:04:23 GMT

hi,

 I am a newbie to Linux and I am trying to add a system call to the kernel.
 I did the following :

 1) I wrote a function

     asmlinkage int assoc(void)
     {
       return 1;
     }

    and added that to fs/open.c

 2) Then I added an entry for the system call in asm-i386/unistd.h file
    that looks like,

      #define __NR_assoc 164

 3) Then I added space a pointer to the function thats handled by system
   call in arch/i386/kernel/entry.S file that looks like,

     .long SYMBOL_NAME(sys_assoc)
     .space (NR_syscalls-167)*4

  then I booted the kernel and wrote a simple c program.

    1) _syscall0(int, assoc)
        This gave no syntax error but at the same time didn't return 1 either.

    2) i = syscall(164,assoc);
        and I am getting an error like

       undefined reference to assoc..

   If any one can tell me where I am going wrong, it would help me a lot.

 Thanks a lot in advance.

What you will have to do is run the chat script in debug mode
so that you see what strings are being sent back,
then modify your chat script so that it expects these things
and deals with them.

read the PPP-HOWTO and the chat man pages.

Subject: Setserial doesn't.
Date: Sat, 06 Feb 1999 17:53:45 -0800

As part of learning perl, I'm writing little scripts to pull data off of
a Pete Bros. Ultimiter 2000 weather station.

The code is roughed out. As part of debugging, I stuck Procomm Plus on
a PC and hooked it up to my Linux box's serial port (/dev/ttyS1, or
/dev/cua1; makes no difference).

Since the U2000 is locked at 2400 baud, I used setserial to set the baud
rate of the serial port at 2400. But here's the catch:
setserial insists that the tty port is set at 2400 baud. But I only get
clear data if Procomm is set for 115,200 baud.

I know that's the default baud rate set at boot up time for those ports,
so apparently setserial is not really setting it at 2400 baud.

Or is some other process resetting it to 115.2?

Any pointers would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I sure hope someone can help me on this. It's been a big pain in my butt
for some time now. /etc/security/access.conf does not seem to do a thing
. Is there some thing I have to do to get this file to work properly?
It's the exact same format as in FreeBSD and it works great in FreeBSD.
Any comments or a direction to which man will tell me how to impliment this
in Linux would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

          PIKT, Problem Informant/Killer Tool, version 1.2

          New developments: increased max array size to 65535
          elements; fixed several GNU/Linux-specific problems
          (the GNU/Linux version is now on a par with the
          Solaris/SunOS versions); implemented some speedups;
          fixed some bugs

PIKT is an innovative new paradigm for administering heterogeneous networked
workstations. PIKT monitors systems, reports problems, and fixes those
problems automatically whenever possible.

PIKT uses an embedded scripting language that sports an especially clean
syntax and introduces unique features to make your programming easier.

PIKT is also a sophisticated control mechanism for managing all of your
administrative scripts. You can, setting aside the PIKT language, even
use it to version control, install, error log, and schedule programs written

If you pick up your rpm's from http://rufus.w3.org they will
show you requirements for each package and provide links
where you can download the required libraries and such if

I guess that's what happens when war is the driving force for the
advancement of technology in a country. You think that microwaves, radar,
and infrared would be used by policemen and telecommunications companies if
they hadn't already been invented for use in war?

There are so many things the US is working on that the government doesn't
want us to know about. By now, they have to be able to clone humans, cure
AIDS and build hovercars because some so called 3rd world countries can cure
many cases of AIDS and cancer. The technology exists but it is either too
costly or if it is too costly, it's used for war.

Peking scientists in China were able to take DNA fragments of a dinosaur
from a fossilized egg back in 1994. By now, there has to be some genetic
splicing going on between humans and certain animals that we don't know
about. It's a really sick world we live in.

I called High Point USA ( http://www.highpointusa.com ) and they found me a
Tecmar WANGdat 3400DX ext SCSI 4mm DDS2 Tape drive for only $375. US !!!

They specialize in factory opened but new, distressed, and refurbished stuff.
My tape drive was new. The unit was still in the shrink wrap. It's so fast and
to buy a unit like this from any regular outlet would have cost me more than
double what I paid. Now I back up Linux, NT, 95/98 in no time! I love this
thing! ....but you need a SCSI card, but you can get ISA ones pretty cheap.

Hi,
Sorry, but we aren't about to produce a kernel RPM for several reasons,
primarily we feel a generic "Everything you'll ever need" type of kernel
binary distribution aproach is not as stable as building for a specific
machine or small group of specific machines.

But, there should be a kernel SRPM that is available from Red Hat's Rawhide
distribution.

Go to ftp.gnu.org and download "screen", it does *exactly* what you
want and then some. The nicest addition to your wants list is that
you can have multiple shells running in one telnet/terminal session,
switching between them with control-key sequences. You can also set
it up to auto-detach, so that if you lose your connection to the
remote machine accidentally, you can just reconnect and continue from
where you left off.
