Mainly for new Linux users, Red Hat 101 is an open Deja Community that you can
either use as a starting point for problem solving, or as a discussion area to
contribute to, ask questions, and get answers.
Red Hat 101 works by gathering together USENET newsgroups and off-site WWW
links in one single web page that will be useful to Linux users. There are
also dedicated discussion resources.
I'm an active moderator and will always be available to give advice and answer
questions. Red Hat 101 is here:

I have a friend who says it may be possible to mount a ZipDrive in Linux/Unix.
Is this possible?
If it is can you give some idea on how to do it?
Thanks
Shawn

i'd stay away from the minuteman ones. it's nice, but even with a
pin-out i couldn't put together a working cable. the documentation
with powerd lays out the aps models pretty clearly.

I want to 'look'at my Linux machine from my Windows 98 machine in a GUI way.
Telnet works, that's no problem but is is character based.
Is there a way in which you can 'explore' your Linux machine from a windows
machine?

Some messages flashed by briefly a little while ago about HP printers
with model numbers > 700 being supported only by MS Windows. I tried
upgrading an OfficeJet (560 I think) about 6 months ago, which was a
dismal failure. I don't know what to say. It seems that HP has opted
completely for WinPrinters. I have a 400 that I use day-in day-out,
but I'm skeptical of buying another HP now.

When I telnet into my Linux server from a Win 9x box, if I start elm I
get some gibberish about the screen not being wide enough (and elm stops
before it runs). What can I do about this?
Interestingly, if I telnet to a different server and then telnet from
there I don't get the message.
Anyone help me?
Also, I can't vi because it tells me a bunch of hooey about termcap
stuff and then exits.
Can anyone help me fix this?
Thanks!

Are you sending your printer output to the correct device? In /etc/printcap you
shoud have 'lp=/dev/lp1:' statement. Make sure you are going to the right one:
/dev/lp1, /dev/lp2 or whatever. You will have to change this when you move to
2.2.x BTW, it has a different way of counting parallel ports. Best of luck...

I take your point about IBM legitimising Linux in the coporate sector.
This is a positive enforcement of the work being done in the open source
community. I was always under the inpression that AIX was stable, but I
bow to your experience on this one. I've used HP-UX and its quirky at
best. It is difficult to see what the corporate sectors influence on the
oss community will be. To be honest it would be nice to see some of the
authors of the oss movement recieve some financial rewards.
I know that many will think that this sort of move will dilute the
ideals of the oss movement.

There are some minor bugs in it. If you change the fonts for the different

change it just edit that file.

You generally need 2 directives to add user-public HTML directories
in Apache. First (and you can put it in any config file Apache reads):
UserDir public_html
Where public_html is your choice; this translates URL http://host/~user/...
to filesystem path ~user/public_html/...
Second, you need to allow Apache to access the home directories. By
default, you probably have a restrictive:
<Directory />
block which allows no access by default to anything. You will need
to add another block (maybe <Directory /home>) to allow access to
the user home directories, similar to the one you have for document root.

The standard BSD license and the FreeBSD license can be found here

It is amazing how quickly one can lose respect of others by using
such cheap arguments (besides that it makes no sense based on John's
posts). This and some other statements you have made in this
"discussion" (I am being truly charitable here) are unfortunately
public for everyone to read. I really couldn't care less if you
prefer a more socialist-bent software license or some other. I
have admired your work so far, and it is a pity that I had to adjust
my perception of you after reading some of your posts. Please stop
this ugliness and name calling (parasites). It serves absolutely
NO useful purpose.
