Do any of the PCMCIA CDPD wireless modems work with Linux?
If so, which cards and service providers have you tried
and what have been your experiences with them?

rerun setup and use linux fdisk to delete the partitions,,,then reboot,,,also
the NT setup disks that use the partitioning utility are good at getting rid of
linux partitions...(figures,,,)

Hi,
I would like to compile kernel 2.2.2 patching kernel 2.2.1ac4.
For doing so I have to "patch back" to kernel 2.2.1 and then patch it
again for updating it to kernel 2.2.2.
I remember a page that says how to remove a patch but I'm not able to
find it.
the man is hot helping me :(

Anyone knows how to do it?

Cheers

Actually, reading the files on and exploring the cd was the first thing I
did .. it only raised a lot of questions (would have been nice to browse the
html documents .. none of the links in them worked so I had to browse each
seperately .. took a bunch of browsing on various web sites to realize the
html docs were online in various places and that I could follow "howtos" in
a logical progression (rather than seperately opening each doc on the cd to
see what it was) .. this was an LSL distro of redhat.

I can see getting disgruntled when someone posts the same question say over
a weeks time (that's obvious that the person didn't make any effort at all
to peruse newsgroup), but I've found Linux to be on the weak side as far as
getting any support as a minix newbie ... and I don't consider myself a
hardware newbie or computer illiterate at all .

Also, there are other factors that one need consider--

(a) not all news servers keep posts an indefinite amount of time

(b) not everyone has a seperate machine , or even a seperate hard drive to
take a run & gun approach to installing Linux . I don't mind learning a new
OS (heck, I want to) and know it takes time, patience, and actual hands on
experiences ... but after seeing so many posts about " I can't boot my
system" & also things in online reference materials like "installing lilo
will completely erase any data on disk" or even "disk druid doesn't work,
use fdisk" --- the stakes go way up when confronted with the possibility of
losisng something that works, as well as a hell of a lot of data .

(c) with so many setups possible in Linux (a good thing I think) & all the
distro's , it can be very confusing reading reference sites. Also there are
a lot of discrepensies in how things are written about various aspects of
the OS .

(d) I've yet to get a "simple" answer to a "simple question" ... case in
point ... when I first researched the Linux disk (and various web sites) ..
I got curious about fips and fdisk ... I was particularly interested in the
partitioning capabilities ( of doing 4 primaries, also moving partitions
around ) ... the only answer I got was "fdisk rocks" .... pretty intelligent
eh ? After waiting 3 weeks or so, and given that I know some isp's delete
posts from newsgroups (actually I browse newsgroups daily when I have a
question posted, so if a recent post is there this is a moot point) .. I'm
going to repost the question .. mainly because I feel the initial post may
not be available to others (although I know the headers may be).

To date, since almost a year ago, I've never gotten any answers to a couple
of questions about UDMA support in Linux --- hmm this gives me a chance to
illustrate my previous point .. the UDMA "howto" specifically says the
Promise Ultra33 is not supported up to kernel 2.035, yet in next sentence
says 2.0.35 natively supports it .... yet the reason I bought RedHat 5.2
(after receiving RedHat 5.1 two weeks prior) was to get kernel 2.0.36 (what
am I going to do -- recompile a kernel before I even start ?) .... Believe
it or not , it was difficult even finding out what kernel was on the RedHat
5.2 distro ( I asked on several irc "help" channels) .. eventually I got the
answer from LSL , but it took almost a week to get an answer to a simple
question ....

I think this is the attitude problem that so many newer Linux users complain
about .

Subject: Kernel 2.0.36, compile fails on objdump program
Date: Wed, 24 Feb 1999 23:26:40 -0600
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello,
I'm having a bit of a problem getting kernel 2.0.36 to compile. I'll
paste in the error at the bottom of this message.
Current kernel is 2.0.33. Libc is 5.4.46, GCC is 2.7.2.3, binutils is
2.9.1.0.19a, autoconf is installed version 2.13, flex version is 2.5.4a
and yacc is 1.9.1, make is version 3.77.
Everything looks to compile fine except right at the end when it
decides to either run objdump or objcopy. My version of objdump doesn't
like any of the flags that are sent to it.
I thought it was a out of date software thing so I updated everything I
could think of.
Ah well enough rambling, here's the output from make:

There an official HOWTO on the subject, but when I tried (and I have years of
hardware experience), I failed to get things going and (through fault of my own)
managed to damage the software on the original drive. I do have an update HOWTO
that was written by one of our club members that is a bunch better than the
official one and will send it to you (via email). If anyone else wants it,
email me and I will send. The 'thanks' goes to Bart Dorsey of the Little Rock
