Hi!
I'me trying to load a linux kernel V-2.2.2 builded for the arm
architecture into the evaluation board EDB7211 of cirrus logic.
This board comes with a demo cd with a program to load a demo version
of linux (Is the royal linux from ISDCorp). It works very fine, but is
impossible to modify the disk image of the demo.
I've also a program that can load code into the flash of this board.
I've tried to load a kernel image built for the ARM architecture, but
in this way it does'nt works.
I think that I need a bootloader (like the loadlin or lilo) that load
the kernel and the ramdisk image, but i'm not sure and also i don't
know what kind of operation must do this loader.
Can somebody help me ??
Thank you.
Gabriele.

You can try the free (libre) ksh imitator pdksh (or even zsh), which
Red Hat should supply, or the restricted-license, true-blue ksh from
http://www.kornshell.com/.

Actually, I've been using my WinTV 401 since the 2.0 kernels...

The LGPL does infact tend to be used instead of the GPL in instances
where merely reusing a component, while not actually altering that
component, would be unecessarily burdensome to people seeking to build
their own works.
This dramatically alters the nature and usefulness of Free Software
in practice, contrary to the 'all viral all the time' fantasy the
anti-GPL cabal here would prefer one to believe.

I have a SuperMicro-DM3 (dual PIII/800) board on which everything works
(Linux-2.2.16) except audio (no sound except a click when powered on).
The book and BIOS indicate an AC97 codec enabled.
The ac97_codec.0 module loads but remains unused.
gnome, kde, fvwm2 all unable to make sounds.
Get a series of messages saying /dev/dsp doesn't exist. Doing ls -l on
/dev/dsp shows it with all rw permissions.
Anybody got any ideas??

Install package XFree86-devel-<<version>> and try to rerun configure.
If it still fails (I wonder why), rerun it with options:
./configure --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/include --x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/libs
Do these with any further upcoming error.
For all options of configure, run it as: ./configure --help

Um. This doesn't work on all soundcards (most, though) and the audio
quality is not very good. A program like wavrec would provide a
better bare-bones command-line solution, while you can go to
http://freshmeat.net and search for "ecasound" if you need more power
and flexibility. /dev/audio samples at 8KHz, which is OK for voice, but
horrible for anything musical....

Hi,
Just a quick question for anyone who knows about Linux and ext2
filesystems...
If I have a mail-checking tool running, that's going to be looking at
my mail file every say, 30 seconds, and the machine isn't generally
doing anything else, will the disk be physically checked, or will it
all happen in a memory cache?
I'm wondering whether there's any reason to shut down mail-checking
progs if my machine is permanently up, to prevent the disk being hit
frequently. I suspect it's not really a problem due to cacheing.
Thanks in advance,
James.

idea on something to try that be a big help.

I've been told that (in order to get my ATAPI EIDE
tape drive (/dev/ht0) to work properly), I need to
update my kernel from 2.2.14 to 2.2.16. I was told
to download an rpm from SuSE called "k_eide.rpm".
When I did an "rpm -U k_eide.rpm", it listed four
conflicts (involving vmlinuz, vmlinuz.autoconf.h,
vmlinuz.config, and vmlinuz.version.h).
Should I use "--force" when I do the rpm?

Hi,
I've got a little more info now, I'm using Red Hat 6.1 right now, and I
was asked to configure the yp, ypinit, ypbind etc, whatever that is.
Once I've done that I should be able to look at all the maps, like the
passwd file, the hosts, file etc.
Another thing I need to do is set up the automounter, which will do the
dynamic
mounting of directories from other machine.
If anybody has any info or knows a site where I can get that info I will
very thankful,
Thanks a lot,

Subject: mkisofs | cdrecord, appends 000 to filename
Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 18:31:50 GMT
Urgently Need Help With This one!
Running the following command changes the names of several filenames
from their filename to filename000. I have found no common reason for
this; however, I was able to apply some non-iso9660 flags to the mkisofs
command to reduce the number of files that are changed. Has anyone seen
this problem and if so has anyone been able to resolve it. I am simply
trying to burn a directory structure and its content to cd.
The actual error goes something like this:
Using /private/directory/sub-directory/filename000 for
/private/directory/sub-directory/filename
What I have noticed is the problem is not a 32 character issue and it is
not a filename != 8.3 so make 8.3 issue. Again after careful review I
have found no common reason for the problem.
mkisofs -r (along with any number of non-iso9660 compliant flags)
/private/ |cdrecord speed=2 dev=0,0,0 -data -
Thanks for any and all input and help!

Open one up and take out the file you need.
rpm -aql | less or similar should tell you
which package it came from. If you don't have anything to read
rpm's with directly (and you can always just reinstall it), turn
it into a tgz using alien, and take out what you want.
Sorry, but it's not on my 6.3 machine. I'd guess it's in a libs or

Subject: Prompt for root account: Bash Shell problems
Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2000 14:48:21 -0400
I'm using Redhat 6.1 and I'm having problems getting my prompt to display
correctly for my root account in the bash shell. It works fine under all
other accounts.
What's happening is when I either use su from another account or I logon
directly at the machine as root, my prompt shows up as \u@\h \W\$> (under
any other account this shows up as username@hostname workingdirectory $>)
In my /etc/bashrc file, I have a PS1 line that reads PS1="\u@\h \W\$>" and
nothing else (yet)
In my /etc/profile file, I have a line that reads:
"export PS1 USER LOGNAME MAIL HOSTNAME HISTSIZE HISTFILESIZE INPUTRC"
I have nothing relating to PS1 in my ~/.bashrc or my ~/.bash_profile for
myroot account
Can someone please explain to me how I can fix this? It's driving me nuts!
It seems like the bash shell is not processing the PS1 line for rootaccount,
and is just outputting it to the screen as a string. Any help
isappreciated!

Keith Owens <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> December 1999
The combination of kmod and modprobe can loop, especially if modprobe
uses a system call that requires a module. If modules.dep does not
exist and modprobe was started with the -s option (kmod does this),
modprobe tries to syslog() a message. syslog() needs Unix sockets,
if Unix sockets are modular then kmod runs "modprobe -s net-pf-1".
This runs a second copy of modprobe which complains that modules.dep
does not exist, tries to use syslog() and starts yet another copy of
modprobe. This is not the only possible kmod/modprobe loop, just the
most common.
...
I found this tidbit in a post, kernel 2.3 patch.
