Make sure your system is bootable from floppy.
Back up everything important.
Boot Linux one last time and use its fdisk to change its partition
to large FAT32.
Boot Win-98. Get an MS-DOS prompt and type
fdisk /mbr
to restore the Microsoft boot sector and
format d:
to create a Microsoft file system on the former Linux partition,
if hardware wizard didn't do that automatically when you booted.
Do this with candles, soft organ music, and a black sash across your door,
and wear black for a week.

Linux will read any DOS partition. Simply download the files into the DOS
partition, and mount the partition using, "mount -t msdos /dev/hda1 /mnt"
then "cd /mnt/directory_with_downloaded_file" or "mv /mnt/downloaded_file"
Note. long filenames are not preserved with this method. To preserve long
filenames mount using "mount -t vfat" instead of "mount -t msdos"

Sorry, that should be `to "c", "t", or "x"' (and "c" is for "create").

Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I doubt this is possible without rebuilding several utilities - but is there
a nice easy way to rip PAM out of RedHat? It's one of the things I'm not a
fan of - more because it sticks a bunch of libraries on the system (ie, the
PAM ones) that are going to just sit there - I have no intention of doing
anything PAM related, short of logging in and out of the system. So...to
save a bit of space, I thought I'd zap the thing out.
Nice idea, but I've seen very little out for it. And I can't be asked
getting to grips with it myself (yes, laziness).
TIA,
Chris...

The tarball is one of the options on the download page. This may or may
not be a dynamically generated page, meaning I cannot bookmark it or
refer to it directly.
It's the page you see after filling out your registration information.
The tarball is one of the listed files, IIRC.

Hello,
I want to know if it is possible to set up a standby mode in the LINUX
so that the monitor and harddisk can go off after some specified idle
time, just like what Windoze does. I think it is a good feature. Sure, I
can turn off the monitor, but I would like to have computer do it
itself.
I did not see any relative HOW-TO documents in the sunsite. Any help,
please?

I am having strange problems with LILO
I rebuild my kernel, copied it in (onto the partition, not the MBR), changed
the lilo.conf, ran /sbin/lilo
Everything looked fine.
I rebooted, and got "No signature file found"
I can't boot off my rescue disk either
Any ideas?

Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I currently have two machines connected through a 10baseT network using TCP/IP
and want to print from my RH Linux 5.1 ( kernel v.2.2.4 ) box to my OS/2 Warp
4 FP 9 box using lpd.
My main machine is the OS/2 box, with the Linux box as an experimental
machine, and there is no forwarding between the two net0 and net1 on the OS/2
machine
Note: the Linux box has been upgraded significantly since RH 5.1 was
installed.
First off, is it possible to set up OS/2 Warp 4.0 client to act as a print
server using lpd? Secondly, if this is possible, how can it be done?
How do I find out what queue to send to from the Linux box?
Thank you for any and all assistance in this matter.

Which couldn't be done at all with a GUI. And nothing close to
it can either.
The simple fact is that abominations like that are the way to
get a lot of work done, and a CLI is needed to do it.

Not so about the colleges; up at Rutgers they're doing all their intro
& some of their other course with Java (or so I hear from a few CS
people there) and here at Bowling Green (Ohio) it's all C++, except for
the intro to programming course which is VB. I know C++ is close to C
but I've seen way too many people here who can do C++ (because it's what
they learned) but not C, due to the lack of objects and I/O streams.

Hi there
I've been trying to configure the Xfree server with my graphic card (a
cirrus logic gd5430). I'm running S.u.S.E. 5.3 so I use the SAX setup tool.
Problem is I can't get over the 41 Hz vertical refresh rate when using the
SVGA server (800x600x16). Should I look for a more specific sever? If so,
where? Otherwise, how could I set it up?
Any hint would be appreciated.
Thanks!
PS: I can get to that resolution (800x600x16) in windows'95 with 75Hz
refresh rate, so it's got to be a matter of configuration

to your first question:
look at all the scripts in /etc/rc.d and its subs.
your second question:
buy a modem, connect it to your machine, read the howtos, install the
corresponding programs and let linux dial up ;)

Hey, what about
http://www.cheapbytes.com/
Most of their cds are $1.99. Now let's not forget the $5.00 (in the USA)
shipping charge! So we are really paying $7.00 for a single cd.
But Cheapbytes tells you that for that $5.00 you can order up
to 18 cds (I think that's the number?). Also when they process your
oder they send you an e-mail and when they ship another e-mail is sent.
I've certainly been happy ordering from them,

I tried to install 5.01 over the top of my 5.0 installation. The setup
program complained that there was not enough disk space. So I reluctantly
deleted /opt/Office50 and then installed the upgrade, fully expecting that
I would have to re-register. To my pleasant surprise, when I ran SO as
user afterwards, it came up with no problems. All my user configurations
were intact.
