You might want order a free catalog from Jameco Electronics
(http://www.jameco.com), they've got stuff that you could either use or at
least give you ideas to start.

Yep, where 'mydomain.com' is the linux boxes domain name. Actually, it
is more likely that the name would be 'mail.mydomain.com' and you will
need to add a line to /etc/sendmail.cw:

mydomain.com

In order for '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' work. You also need to add in a MX
record on your DNS server for mydomain.com that points to mail.mydomain.com.

Have a look in /usr/doc. Be sure to install the sendmail-doc RPM, and
you will also want the sendmail-cf RPM installed too -- you need this to
fiddle with the config, so you can do all sorts of clever games like
virtual domains and virtual users and so on.

Oh, you might want to visit www.amazon.com and get yourself a copy of
"Sendmail" by Bryan Costales (with Eric Allman), ISBN #1-56592-222-0.
This is an O'Reilly 'Nutshell' book. The one with the bat on the cover.

The best I know of is "Running Linux" by O'reilly. Also, the school of
very hard knocks has tought me that ppp really is pickie about permissions.
Try setting "noauth" at first and then correcting after it's up and
functional. Wvdial , xinetd work well for me, but all of the files in
/etc/ppp have to be configured. If you can't quite manage , try SuSE 6.0. (I
have RH 5.2, and SuSE is much more user friendly). SuSE also comes with Star
Office and a lot of other really well done software, and a MANUAL!!!, which
is on the O'reilly level (better than RH manual). The whole she-bang is $35.
You really do need manuals....

cdrecord I guess does not do disk-at-once burning. Is there any utility
which will yet? Is there any trick someone has learned which will let
you burn an audio CD which has no blank spaces in it correctly? So far,
Linux outdoes Windows95 in CD-R hands down, except for this feature
which I can't find the answer to currently. That surprises me too
because with all the background processing in Linux, its hard to imagine
the disk not getting corrupted....but there it is, Linux is does a
better job easier and faster.

Also, is there any way to slow down the audio extraction using
cdparanoia? In windows with easy CD you can slow down the rate and
sometimes get a better extraction. I have a scratched up disk which I
am unable to get some tracks from and I would like to if at all
possible. So any tricks in that area would be helpful too.

Also, how do you read, and what are, the "volume header" and "master
block" of an iso9660 filesystem?

I downloaded a small program from AT&T called VNC. It's an X server that
has a client that can run on Windows (among other OSs) boxes and display the
X session - they also has a Java client. It's pretty cool (tested it on a

on my Linux server at home! It uses TCP port 5900+ for its listening port.
When I try to connect, I can't. How do I check which ports I can make a
connection to? Also, which configuration file to I change to allow/disallow
TCP connections on specific ports?

Another, unrelated question: How do I change the default path for all
users? I use the set command to see the path, but I can't figure out how to
change it.

Not if I use the GIMP to lighten the image when I print it, but if I use
straight gs then yes....sometimes gs prints darker, like with canon
printers.

Use gamma correction.
%!
/.fixtransfer {
  currentcolortransfer 4 {

  } repeat setcolortransfer
} bind odef
.fixtransfer
/setpagedevice { setpagedevice .fixtransfer } bind odef

Don't ask me what that does, but put it before the file your printing.
Look in Devices.html for more information
/usr/share/ghostscript/5.10/doc/

you are probably running your Xserver at 8bpp color depth, that's what
leads to these complaints. If your video card has enough memory try using
16 or even 32. Simply set the default color depth to 16 in your XF86Config
file and see what happens.

Yes, it can be:
cmmrboot 346% pwd
/usr/local/bin
cmmrboot 347% ls -l ./wine
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3065300 Apr 12 17:05 ./wine

cmmrboot 349% ldd -d ./nonexistent_file
ldd: can't open ./nonexistent_file (No such file or directory)
cmmrboot 350%

So, ldd "can't execute ./wine" but
"can't open ./nonexistent_file" that does not exist.
Still ldd can not point to any missing libraries.

Thank you, Ulrich.

Most documentation should be found on your harddisk after installing
(e.g. /usr/doc and subdirs). You can also use 'man' to get help. For
the color depth take a look at /etc/XF86Config and do 'man XF86Config'.

The can be no one who has not seen this report, but my comments are

1. Microsoft commisioned the report, and probably did not want any price
performance information in here.
2. 3700 hits per second is probably equivalent to 10,000 intranet users
making 20 hits per minute.
3. The cost of client access licences CAL's for a 10,000 intranet would
be pretty large (read x00,000 of dollars)
4. The cost of client access licenses to generate that load on the SAMBA
server would also be very large.
5. Strange that I recieved a notification of this report from a list
that I do not remeber ever having subscribed to. I
wonder if MS commisioned someone to spam out this report, hmmm.
Microsoft sending spam mail, they must be
    VERY worried about Linux.

C'est faux. Va jeter un coup d'oeil sur ma page web sur les claviers. Une note en
passant,
ce que je dis propos de RedHat 5.9 s'applique aussi Mandrake 5.3

Nope, still too expensive. I'm so broke, I can't pay attention.

Subject: SETI@home linux client

Could someone please tell me which SETI@home Linux
client I should download.
I am running Mandrake Linux 5.3, kernel 2.0.36, AMD K6-2 333

I am confused by what 386, 586, 686 means and which library
to use. I'm eager to get going on this project, but don't know
which client is correct for my setup.
Redhat 5.2 is using glibc 2.0.7. , but I don't see that as an
option on the SETI@home Linux/Unix client site:
http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/unix_cgi
What does static mean?

Any help is sure appreciated.

Dan
