I have downloaded this Program. Now I have saved it at my "C" Drive
which is a Win 98 Platform. How do I get Linux to access this
Directory and install this File? My Linux is located at my "D" Drive.

It's even easier. Just type 'xkill' andpoint and shoot. You can make an
icon for it (many people do)

SANE (http://www.mostang.com/sane/) is the definitive scanner support
package for Linux/Unix. Your GT7000 isn't on their list of supported
scanners, but that page is quite often out of date - you might have
some luck asking the maintainer or on the mailing list.

It is also the primary drive on the first controller, no?

This story makes MUCH more sense now that you've explained you're not
talking about a floppy, but a removable IDE drive.

Have you disabled booting from the IDE drive in your BIOS?

Many BIOS'es really insist on booting IDE if they find one.

Edit the XF85Config file. Look for some lines that start with Virtual.
On these lines, change the size numbers to match with the ones for the
resolution that you normally use, ie , if you normally use 800X600,
then set the virtual line to that also. I havent found any way to get
rid of this rediculous virtual window crap for more than one mode. If
you leave out the virtual statement, it just sets it to the largest
mode that you have configured, so you are still screwed if you change
resolutions while running the xwindows. I guess its just another bug,
but most people find that one particular mode is pretty much all they
run for a given monitor size, so it isnt too bad.

I should get a copy of ezppp. It is very easy to use (As long as you are
using X) and I have set up several different connections with it,
including a dialback account to work.

: REgarding: Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI Sound Card...

: Looks like it works in 2.2.5 Kernel using es1371....

It also works for me in real life ;) Just have to run setup to make sure
it's found. Have fun!

: As Taken from linux/Documentation/sound/es1371:
: ...
: This driver does not support the ALaw/uLaw sample formats.
: ALaw is the default mode when opening a sound device
: using OSS/Free. The reason for the lack of support is
: that the hardware does not support these formats, and adding
: conversion routines to the kernel would lead to very ugly
: code in the presence of the mmap interface to the driver.
: And since xquake uses mmap, mmap is considered important :-)
: and no sane application uses ALaw/uLaw these days anyway.
: In short, playing a Sun .au file as follows:

: cat my_file.au > /dev/dsp

: does not work. Instead, you may use the play script from
: Chris Bagwell's sox-12.14 package (available from the URL
: below) to play many different audio file formats.
: The script automatically determines the audio format
: and does do audio conversions if necessary.
: ...

: ONE Strange Thing is: cat /dev/sndstat Displays nothing!
: Does anyone have any sure-fire procedure for properly loading
: Sound Modules required by this 1371 Card? IE, is an OPL2/3
: driver needed... uart401 needed? what else!?

Good day,

I just wanted to see how people normally maintain changes to kernel
parameters over a reboot. For example, if I change shmmax, it will revert
to its default of SHMMAX on reboot. I don't want to change the kernel
source, that's the whole point of tunable parameters :)
