There is a 30 day trial version of Oracle available for free, but the full
version is not free.
The costs are about the same for the Linux version as for the other
platforms.
There is some pricing information available on Oracle's web page.

The site is mostly perl scripts so the interface we're using is DBI.
I've used it for a few other projects and it seems to work quite nicely.
Changing between different DBMS is also quite easy.

Sounds like an IRQ conflict... When booting the PC, hit the pause
button when the data comes on screen that shows the PCI assignments and
check for conflict. Is the Velocity an AGP card? Try switching the order
that IRQ's are assigned (ie: AGP/PCI to PCI/AGP). As a last resort, you
could manually assign IRQ's to the PCI slots! Good Luck

If your running X, with a server that has DPMS support, you can set the
DPMS state timeouts with xset, or I have a program called xdpms which
makes it a bit easier.

Slightly more complex: look further in the file and you'll see another
rule that looks like:
# handle generics database
#R$+ < @ $=G . > $: < $1@$2 > $1 < @ $2 . > @ mark
#R$+ < @ *LOCAL* > $: < $1@$j > $1 < @ *LOCAL* > @ mark
#R< $+ > $+ < $* > @ $: < $(generics $1 $: $) > $2 < $3 >
#R< > $+ < @ $+ > $: < $(generics $1 $: $) > $1 < @ $2 >
#R< $* @ $* > $* < $* > $@ $>3 $1 @ $2 found qualified
#R< $+ > $* < $* > $: $>3 $1 @ *LOCAL* found unqualified
#R< > $* $: $1 not found
Remove the leading '#' on each of those lines (don't change the tabs --
spaces and tabs are important).
There, like magic you have a sendmail.cf that supports the
genericstable. (No m4 needed!)
Now just build the file that it wants (in this case, a dbm -- or you
can change the 'dbm' (both above and below) to 'hash' if your sendmail
and makemap support it):
makemap dbm /etc/genericstable < /etc/genericstable
You should see a pair of files: genericstable.pag and .dir.
Restart sendmail (kill -HUP `head -1 /var/run/sendmail.pid`) and
you're done.

Does this program work at all?
I've fiddled with it a few times, but can never get it to do a full backup
of my system.
I start in the root directory, and press "i" to include the directory.
Going "down" several directory levels show them selected, and the files in
them selected.
Yet, when I hit "f" or "F" to start the backup, it never backs up any files.
So what's the magic key???

Yep, that's how I know about it: I used to do the same thing with my
old 14.4k modem. (Which had a port speed of 56k, but that actually
makes it easier to force it to drop packets since it's easier to
overrun it.) And you can even do it if you make the port speed match
the modem speed, since the modem does its own error correction and
such, so may be buffering anyway. I felt like an idiot when I finally
figured out why FTP never worked to upload.
> exec /usr/sbin/pppd /dev/modem 115200 lock asyncmap 0 crtscts
> defaultroute connect $DIALER_SCRIPT
You're missing one thing: the 'modem' word, but it shouldn't affect
this (it will make it harder to hang up, though).
Check your modem to make sure it's set to do hardware handshaking by
default (and not software). On a USR modem, that's "AT&F1". For grins,
try &F1, and at the OK, do an AT&W to write the changes out (so that ATZ
will keep them).
If someone did 'AT&F0' or 'AT&F2' and wrote the changes before, you
could select hardware flow control with pppd all day but the modem won't
be doing its share of it.

Depends on your operating system and how much RAM you got. Some
operating systems require at least as much swap as you have RAM, and
as a practical move it was easiest to use double the RAM space for
potential memory expansion over the lifetime of the system. More
important now is what you are running: if you're running the GIMP,
emacs, Netscape, KDE, four overnight compile jobs, and have 12 people
logging in, you need several hundred Meg of space whether it is RAM or
swap. If it's almost all swap, you'll be honking *SLOW*, but you'll
still be able to run.

Will probably still work. Most distributions come with a mondo
sendmail.cf with all sorts of options turned on but commented out.
Look for the string 'generics' in your sendmail.cf file. If
genericstable is there, you're set. If not, you'll have to rebuild
the sendmail.cf to add it. (Which isn't as scary as people will tell
you.)
This will allow you to have a file like:
joe [EMAIL PROTECTED]
fred [EMAIL PROTECTED]
And have both local addresses rewrite into the proper return address
(think of it as a sort of reverse of virtual hosting).

I'm not so sure that this is necessarily the problem. I have been using
Unix
for ~5 years so I'm quite familiar with the superior copy/paste method of
Unix/Linux. However, I too cannot copy/paste in Netscape. I have no
problem in console mode or in any of the xterms but Netscape refuser to
work. I have tried shift-M1 (copy) and shift-M2 (paste) (another person's
recommendation) and this did not work either. Alt-C and Alt-V work.
This smacks of windoze methodology.

Weird: I downloaded 0.2.12-1 a couple days ago and it's still set to
-1. (Yep, 0.2.12 is current, and is what is on the GNOME web page: if
0.2.11 fixed it, they re-introduced it with 0.2.12.)
See http://bugs.gnome.org/db/88/888.html -- which is still showing as an
open bug.
If I check out the current CVS, it's still broke there with no changes
listed regarding auto_standby.

Here's one tip: Don't touch the MBR unless you know what you are

on it. This lilo can also boot almost any other OS/floppy/cdrom on
your system, so you can also make this partition the default boot
