Sure. Franz does have a port of ACL to Linux, and version is "freely
available for some purposes."

Has anyone come across a problem with the INN v 1.7.2 that comes compiled on
Redhat 5.2 that does not allow the server to receive any postings larger

So, needless to say, I am not getting any large posts, or attachments.
Inn is running with the -p4 and -r flags, which have nothing to do with post
sizes.
The default is supposed to be limitless... I have checked my config files
pretty thoroughly, and havent seen where this may be set..

Any ideas ?

Subject: Getting rid of a RPM
Date: Mon, 03 May 1999 19:52:39 GMT

I am using RedHat 5.2 and I have downloaded a RPM from the Internet and
installed it. I worked fine but I deleted everything in the directory
that the program was in. When I go to re-install it (through the control

panel RPM in X) it is still listed in the RPMs that are installed and
when I try to uninstall it I receive an error message that reads
"Errors occurred during the uninstall" "package ICQnix-Beta-1-0 is not
installed".
When I go to look for available packages and set my path to where all my

downloaded RPM's are it doesn't show up as a package to install just the

ones that are not install are available because that package is listed
as installed.
My question is how can I get rid of that package in the "Installed
Packages" so I can reinstall it again?

You're right; I forgot about this because all my hardware worked
smoothly from jumpers and pci resource assignments..

Really.. What is the syntax? That was my biggest frustration with the
loadlin setup I was using. I had originally used the config.sys method
because it's more cautious; zero risk of accidentally ending up with an
unbootable machine. The risk of screwing things up with lilo is very
minimal if you have modern hardware+software, but it is still a
possibility. Plus I had never rewritten my mbr before; now i just grab
my copy of norton diskedit and play... (almost..)

More generally, do you know of any good online references for old dos
gems such as this? I don't have my old manuals handy and they cut the
damn help system out of dos 7.

> LILO. I believe it can be installed by just starting 'lilo' see for

lilo is installed (i.e. copied into the master boot record, creating a
lilo-booted system) by running /sbin/lilo. However, first you must edit
/etc/lilo.conf so that it does something intelligent when it is copied
into sector zero, ref. my earlier posting and relevant manpages.

Why do you expect ESR to go completely nuts some day? do you have a

Forget about trying to delete it. Just use brute force:

# rpm -ivh --force [package name].rpm

Sorry, I don't know how to do this with the GUI - only on the
command line. Good luck.

There is Yellow Dog Linux. That seems to be gathering a following. As
for window managers.. LinuxPPC ships with a bunch. KDE is set as
default. KDE comes with several apps and is pretty good, although it
uses a fair amount of memory. Still, the K apps are fairly well
integrated. You can set up fvwm, fvwm2, Afterstep, AnotherLevel right
out of the box, or you can DL others.

I have successfully installed WordStar in a dosemu session. The screen
colors are kind of bilios, and the cursor disappears, but everything
else works. (I'm sure both of these problems are easily fixable; I
just haven't bothered.)

This means your version of Ghostscript doesn't have the stcolor driver
compiled into it. Try the version from:

http://www.users.dircon.co.uk/~typhoon/

> If i use a similar command using the upp driver (stc.upp),

The stc.upp file isn't a printer driver in the sense that stcolor is; it's
an adjunct to the uniprint driver. I recommend using stcolor with the
ESC400, since the only uniprint .upp file I've gotten to work (for the ESC
500) produces horifically slow output at 720x720 dpi.

This part is fine. Now you need to modify your
/var/spool/lpd/lpEpson/postscript.cfg file so that it includes these
lines:

GSDEVICE=stcolor
RESOLUTION=720x720
EXTRA_GS_OPTIONS="-dSoftweave stcolor.ps"

(There'll be other lines, too; don't mess with them.) You can set the
RESOLUTION line to other values. In fact, you can set up several queues
for different resolutions. (I've got four, ranging from 180x360 to
720x720 dpi.)

Either will work. Using Linux as the print server gives the advantage
that you can print to it using either Windows PostScript drivers (via the
queues you set up as I've just outlined) or with Windows native Epson
drivers (via a queue you'd need to set up to pass output directly to the
printer, without passing it through Ghostscript). Printing PostScript
will reduce network bandwidth when you're printing text, and may have
other advantages in some situations. If you use the Windows box as the
host machine, then you'll get bidirectional communication between the
Windows drivers and the printer, which will give you access to information
on ink useage.

Would you denie them the choice of licensing the IP the way they
