Not that I am aware of. Outlook Express is the ONLY non-browser that
handles hotmail. (hmmm, aren't those both micro$oft products) Any
browser in Linux will access hotmail through the web though.

Can you ssh to the POP3 mail server as one of the users? Would be
ssh <username> <mail.xxx.xxx>(or whatever you have listed in outlook as
the mailserver))
If you can authenticate here then it is probably something set wrong in
outlook. Double check the username being used (would need to be exactly
what the email address is before the @) and password capitalization.

In Kernel 2.4.x (and 2.2.17, 2.2.18) the NFS PArt ist changed a lot,
you will need the actual nfs-utils from nfs.sourceforge.net.
Have a look into the linx/Documentation/Changes file it's really recommended to
read it ...

Mount the /w98 before the nfs-export is done. (do an expicit exportfs -r)
It's possible, that your /var/lib/nfs dir is out of sync. In this case
I do a "nfs-reinit" like this on the server:
==========x============x==================x================x===========
#!/bin/bash
echo Reinit NFS Exports
/etc/rc.d/nfsserver stop
rm -f /var/lib/nfs/etab /var/lib/nfs/rmtab /var/lib/nfs/state /var/lib/xtab
touch /var/lib/nfs/etab /var/lib/nfs/rmtab /var/lib/nfs/state /var/lib/xtab
chmod 644 /var/lib/nfs/etab /var/lib/nfs/rmtab /var/lib/nfs/state /var/lib/xtab
rmmod nfsd
rmmod lockd
/etc/rc.d/nfsserver start
exportfs -r
==========x============x==================x================x===========
Then is al happy again ...

Julius - I got it (with your help) !!! Thanks a lot.
Explanation:
When running du -x, I noticed that my old /opt was still investigated on mp
/j, which was the 'spare place' I mentioned and from which I thought it was
a HPSF drive (which it has been before), but I removed that partition once
without removing the mount point....
Typical Linux beginners mistake, I guess. One has to consider that a mount
point is not necessarily a partition if it not mounted correctly...
Fritz.
By the way, did anybody hear about a utility that really maps a partitions
used/free areas? I saw this on other OSs and would like to have it on
Linux, too, but I realized that it would be hard to write one. Is it any
possible to access the EXT2 blocks directly to avoid stepping down the
directory trees?

tar.gz is a compressed tar-file. If you use GNU tar you can just
tar xvzf <file>. tar will then use gzip to uncompress first.

Hi all,
I've just installed a RH7.0 Machine, and wonder if anyone can point me
to the procedure for swapping the passwd encryption from MD5 (Default)
to DES (Like all my other webservers..) Ordinarily I'd just reinstall
and select the right option (doh!), but the machine is quite a physical

gunzip x.tar.gz
tar xf x.tar

Hiya-
I am sure if I really had thoroughly RTFM at "Roaring Penguin":
http://www.roaringpenguin.com/pppoe/
and:
http://www.math.uwaterloo.ca/~mostrows/
I would know that with my 2.4.x kernel (with pppoe support
compiled in), to get DSL going with PacBell what I needed to do
was to install:
rp-pppoe-2.5-4 as an rpm
get:
ppp-2.4.0-pppoe4.tgz
and de-archive and compile the tarball, install it, then edit
/etc/ppp/options (replace my_user_id with YOUR user id!):
# cat options
plugin /usr/lib/pppd/plugins/pppoe.so
name my_user_id
and also /etc/ppp/pap-secrets (replace my_pap_passwd with YOUR
passwd!):
# cat pap-secrets
# Secrets for authentication using PAP
# client server secret IP addresses
"my_user_id" * "my_pap_passwd"
Then launch:
/usr/sbin/adsl-setup
answer all the questions fully and truthfully, then launch:
/usr/sbin/adsl-start
and sit back to enjoy the Web at DSL speed!
Instead I mucked around and mucked around with "No response to
PAP authentication requests", etc., then finally did the above,
THEN sat back to enjoy...
Bob L.
P.S. I am posting this so it will be there in DejaNews for
others; I did a fairly extensive Web search while trying to
troubleshoot my connection, and I did not find much there for
2.4.x kernel users.

I've always compiled the iptables stuff directly into the kernel, and
never as modules. With 2.4.1, I tried the modules. When I got the
problems you reported, I did not have the time to investigate; I just
went back to my old strategy, and compiled everything into the kernel,
and it works fine.
I confess that using modules here is probably the better if at all
possible, as I would not expect that I need this all the time,
permanently in the kernel.

Your first partition takes up more than half the disk, so the second
partition (/boot) would start beyond cylinder 2400, which is certainly
beyond cylinder 1023. But the latest version of lilo allows you
top boot from a partition beyond cylinder 1023 if your BIOS allows
it. (This shouldn't be a problem with any but an ancient BIOS.)
You also have to specify the lba32 option in /etc/lilo.conf. (If
there is a linear option, remove it.) Get
the up to date version of lilo and try it.
If you are using a version of Linux supporting rpm packages, look
at www.rpmfind.net. Otherwise get a tar archive from
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/boot/lilo
But there is something I don't understand about your original message.
Lilo reports an error with device 0x0304. But this should be
partition /dev/hda4, and you don't have such a partition.

Indeed. Well, I'm the opposite: always as modules, never a problem in
sight. Then again, I make a point of asserting an `EXTRAVERSION=' line in
the kernel's top-level Makefile, so I get different
/lib/modules/2.4.N-version/ directories for different purposes.
Alternatively, you could play with System.map and depmod -ae, and just find
the kernel options required to resolve the missing symbols... But having a
clean /lib/modules/ directory always helps.
