IIRC, FAT32 support was introduced with 2.0.34. Grab a newer kernel and make
sure you compile vfat into your kernel or as a module.

You could try disabling the ata66 in the Quantum CR's. It should then
run as a normal ata33 drive and you might get your UDMA back.

An OS doesn't have IRQs . A hardware platform , however, does.
So, for any OS on a x86 machine, IRQs must be triggered for certain
kind of HW interaction. See "cat /proc/interrupts" .

All of a sudden my 2.2.7 linux system will only boot up to the point :-
VFS: Mounted Root (ext2 filesystem) read only
Free unused kernel memory 48K freed
I can mount the root FS from a rescue disk but beyond this point I have no
idea what to do to repair the system.
Up until now my system was very reliable however just prior to this event
starting I had quit KDE and the system started to play up with segmentation
faults, core dump etc.
Any ideas?

I figured that out. The root_squash option is on by default, which is good
but prevents root on the client from accessing nfs exports. But then I
need to use "user" as an /etc/fstab option to the nfs share, right?
I also have a problem of uid/gid mapping among machines. I am trying to
figure out if I should run a uid deamon, but I read somewhere that it's
not used by linux nfs servers, is that correct?
Alternatively, using map_static seems a better option to me.
Any thoughts?

No, Windows can't handle a K6/II running more than 300.
Just like Bill said, 300 should be enough for a user ;)
But running Linux on a K6/II has no problems for me. I only know of problems
with a Diamond Viper 550 and Asus motherboard, but that's all.

For build DBD-Oracle,
before run
perl Makefile.PL
you mast define the ORACLE enviroment variables ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE
(in bash)
ORACLE_HOME="/..." ; export ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_BASE="/..." ; export ORACLE_BASE
then run
perl Makefile.PL
make

Rpms and dpkgs have different information and I doubt they can be
seamlessly translated (if they could, claims of dpkg's technical
superiority would be baseless).
Redhat systems can install dpkgs too, but I doubt foreign packages are a
good idea with either distribution. If you start intermixing rpms and
dpkgs, especially between libraries and binaries, I suspect you'd introduce
confusion and conflicts.
Would anyone who knows the internals of both like to comment?

Hi
I am running RedHat 5.2 (Linux2.0.36) and DOSEMU
0.98.1 with DOS-C 0.92 (FreeDos).
I boot of the virtual dos partition and would then
like to be able to see a 'real' msdos disk as D:.
I understand that FreeDos doesn't support lredir
and am trying to use partition access. Here's what
I've done:
1) edited the hdimage variable in /etc/dosemu.conf
to read:
$_hdimage = "hdimage.freedos /dev/hda1:ro"
2) unmount /dev/hda1
3) as su, start dos
4) D:
- nothing happens!!!!
any ideas as to why I cannot see this dos drive?
Thanks

The hardware has IRQ's, all software has to use them or
run in a much slower polling way. It's not Operating System
dependent. In Slackware most IRQ's are setup in /etc/rc.d/rc.*
files (as everything is).

I think you should read the manuals of samba again. Windows has of course a
script capabilty otherwhise
it would not work with Netware or NT Server anyway. And Samba supports this
script capability, too.
There is a very detailed description in the samba documentation, how to map
networkdrives or excute scripts
during logon. If you need some help feel free to contact me.

If this is the case, why do so many libertarians seem so keen on
abolishing social constraints on the exercise of raw power? Because
that's what "abolish as much of the government as possible" sounds like.
In modern democratic societies, government exists to serve the needs of
the citizens, not vice versa.
Limiting state power -- which permits unpleasant individuals in high
office to do nasty things -- is a good idea, but it seems to me that
a constant thread in libertarian rhetoric is the desirability of
abolishing _all_ state power, with a subtext of opportunistic greed.

[cribari@edgeworth cribari]$ locate cmbase.mf
/usr/share/texmf/mft/cmbase.mft

not sure exactly what to alter.
Pointers are extremely welcome!

Subject: Weirdnessess with windows downloading tgz files .... anyone else?
Date: Fri, 14 May 1999 08:00:14 -0500
I've been putting up with some strange weirdnesses for a long time now with
NT ... whenever I try to download a tar file with Netscape (4.51), first
windoze feels it need to replace all the periods in the filename with
underscores. Second, Netscape sometimes does not download the file at all,
but only downloads 1 or 2 kilobytes of it -- this happens a lot when a link
points to a cgi instead of an actual file.
The behavior with IE is even worse. It can't understand the download cgi's
at themes.org at all.
Does anyone know of any tweaks to fix any of this totally braindead
behaviour?
(yes, I am forced to use MS at work)

At the moment I don't know a solution for your problem.
I use Version 1.4a without any problems. I simply loaded it down (I
think it was the binary package) and installed it. From that moment
it worked as it should. Since you can use the net with other
browsers, I think it may be a bug?
So my next advice is to check your version number and find someone
who has the same version of Amaya installed and find out whether he
can browse the net or not.

my rumen.bat:
@echo OFF
if ~%USERNAME% ne ~ goto winNT
:win9x
echo Hello Windows-9x user !
rem Manual map user home for W-9x:
net use V: /DELETE /YES > nul
net use V: \\<MY_SAMBA_SERVER>\rumen /YES > nul
goto end
:winNT
rem W-NT map by default user homes:
rem Options from smb.conf:
rem logon drive = V:
rem logon home = \\%N\%U
echo Hello %USERNAME% on Windows-NT !
goto end
:end
In this time i have problem with roaming profiles under NT.
( options logon path = \\%N\%U\profile ). This work perfect some time,
but after some preinstallation of NT, NT try to make every time a new
local copy of roaming profile to local disk. I become over 10 local
profiles for 1 user (a NT bug).

OK, I've tested my RAM using memtest and it detected no errors.
So what *else* might be causing apparently random page faults?
