You don't need to put the lock file. Just put an extra ":" like this ":0:"
and that should do it.

Doesn't Linux use GMT for time keeping? Could the GMT offset be set wrong
(i.e. +7 hrs instead of -7)? Should the task times be set in GMT instead of
local time? I know Linux will purposely convert GMT to local time for
directory settings, but believe the actual time is GMT - not sure how CRON
handles it. I may have asked more questions than I've answered. Hopefully
a starting point all the same. I'm guessing the original poster is from
California or there abouts.

Dear Readers,
You can get RealPlayer G2 from the following site:
http://www.real.com/products/player/linux.html
I finally got it to work. I changed my genuine Creative Soundblaster sound
card for a cheap clone, ALS110 (Advance Logic). It is fully compatible
with the soundblaster card. I use the same modules.

I'm running redhat-6.0. I installed the 990516 ALPHA driver available
at http://bimbo.fjfi.cvut.cz/~paluch/l7kdriver/ and I have the 5700
model. I installed the rpm as per the README, and I ran printtool to
add the printer.
I selected Lexmark 5700,5770 CMYK Color in the Printer Type dialog
window. I added the appropriate text in the Extra GS options window,
and deselected Fast test printing again as per the instructions. I
restarted lpd, and then tried to print a test page, and I have a dead
printer. No action, no lights.
Here's my dmesg output:
....
parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP,PS2]
parport0: Printer, Lexmark Lexmark 5700
....
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
So, I'm somewhat of the opinion that I do have the kernel configured
properly.
I'm stuck. Can anyone suggest something?

Yes timezone is ok. Now I know where the problem is. There're two kinds
of crond RPM packages out there
vixie-cron
ucrond
RH uses the first one, which has the system-wide crontab under /etc,
while the second one has the system crontab in
/var/spool/cron/crontab.man

Hmmm, I didn't post my suggestion before because it seemed too far fetched,
but since your still having difficulty, maybe when you did the 'make config'
(or 'make menuconfig', or 'make xconfig') you didn't include drivers for
your disk drive (IDE, SCSI) or whatever? I would expect that if that
were the case there would be error messages, but don't know for sure as
it never happened to me.

Is it that cat'n'paste worked at one time, and now it doesn't?
Anyway, verify that 3button emulation is turned on. In SuSE you can do this
via the xmsconfig util or you can edit XF86Config by hand.

Hi~
I've found a problem in the script /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt. In that
script is the command "umount -a -f". The actual line is
runcmd "Unmounting file systems" umount -a -f
The man page does NOT have any reference to the option "-f". I
commented out (#) "-f" and have not had any problems since. Let me know
if this helps.

Each link between two directories can be parent-child or sibling-sibling.
If the link on your end is of class child (which makes the other end the
child, which makes /you/ the parent -- I think) then you can change the
permissions on your end of the link, and on the other end. OTOH, if your
end is of class parent (which makes you the child) then you can change
neither your permission nor the other guy's permission. In the case of
a sibling link, each end can only change the permissions on the opposite
end (so you can block what the other guy can do, and vice versa).
Each directory contains a link which points to the other directory. There
are two ways to classify the directories. One is to say that if you have
a child link then you are a child, the other is if you have a child link
/pointing to you/ then you are a child. I used one scheme then changed
to the other because it made more sense, now I can't remember which I'm
using.

The algorithm is quite beautiful, just a bit of trouble to work out;
the delete has to delete both containers and both links and also any
detached subgraph. You must be able to delete if you have permission
to delete only one end of the link and yet there can't be separate
methods for checking permissions and actually deleting the link so
the whole algorithm involves checking if the other end is deleted
and if it is then deleting oneself immediately, if not then and only
then does one check permissions.
>Mind you, if the root (yeah, yeah, I know) is the ultimate Parent,

The root's parent is a junk directory inside of a process with only
one link that points to the root; the reverse link, that points to
the root's parent, has all its permissions zeroed out. So the root
always has a parent so long as some process, somewhere, knows where
it is. The directory inside of the process is not part of the FS
properly speaking because only the process can access it; it might
not even be a directory at all, but an array or something else.

That's the problem. If you create a method then you should be able to
run it with impunity. So the method has to run inside of some kind of
VM which does not contain any of the globals of Smalltalk (globals like
the SystemDictionary called Smalltalk which contains all globals). :-)

It's a vast improvement over Unix, but it means the syadmin can cut
you off on a whim; and what justification can there be for that?

I'd be happy to, if I ever get it down on text. :-) So far it's
spread over a dozen files in the archive of our mailing list. I
started to update it into something coherent but I find myself
working on totally unrelated stuff. I need to code the portals

more or less), and build some component like the HD driver, but
I'm playing with how the RAM and exec modules have to interact.

Either something is wrong with the layout of the CDs or you've done
something wrong earlier on in the install. I wouldn't be surprised if this
is related to your later problems with wdm. I'd suggest a dejanews search
just in case there is a bug in the instructions.

When you installed the system you were given the oportunity to "install"
various drivers/modules. The choices you made there determine which modules
are loaded at bootup. If you change your mind later you can either run
modconf or just edit /etc/modules. In general I prefer to let the kerneld
load things automatically and I only specify modules in /etc/modules when
necessary.

Consider using "make-kpkg". The FAQ in /usr/doc/debian/FAQ has
instructions. In short, when I want to compile a kernel I do:
make-kpkg clean
make-kpkg --revision mykernel.1 kernel_image
and then do "dpkg -i" on the resulting deb.

It isn't but since you explicitly told it to try to load those modules you
now have to tell it you've changed your mind.

This is after you re-compiled your kernel right? Any chance they are
related?

I'd suggest not recompiling the kernel until you have a better idea of how
the system works. Virtually every device driver has already been compiled
as a module so there really should be no need to re-compile.

Well, it's VERY reliable it's just not as intuitive as it should be and the
on line directions still leave a lot to be desired, maybe you can help.

linux.debian.users is a mirror of the mailing list. Head on over to
www.debian.org and follow your nose to the mailing lists subscription page.
Otherwise you might just type
"mail -s subscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] < +/dev/null"
I hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.

check out pgcc. i don't have the link handy, but just do a search for
them http://gcc.ml.org.
