You can find 2 cycle dimms on the internet (original VX), and $50 is
about right for a 32MB dimm (who suggested $50 for a 16MB chip? I just
got 2 128MB PC100 chips for $85ea, and a good brand). Sorry I can't
test X to see if I can lower this for you, my video card is unsupported.

True, but why anyone would need a DOS version of LILO mystifies
me. LILO is (of course) a boot loader, and as such no OS really
is running when LILO boots. And LILO can boot dos, or linux, or
whatever else suits your fancy.
And more to the point, I don't think LILO would necessarily use
linux file services, or dos file services in the first place (since
the OS is not loaded yet), so a "DOS" version of LILO can't even
exist any more than a "linux" LILO does.
On the other hand, the app that loads up the boot loader code could
be written for dos, and there's probably a good reason for it to
do so.

hmm i mailed a correction private instead of to newsgroup:
http://www.i2k.com/~jeffd/rpopen/
-Run a simple "make" in the dir you unpacked it
(with tar -zxvf filename)
-After the make: copy open.so and rplayer to the dir rvplayer is.
-Edit the file "rplayer" to contain the real path to your rvplayer.
-Then point your browsers association with realaudio to rplayer INSTEAD
of rvplayer (in applications or plugins or whatever you use.)

I used to work for a company (Revo sunglasses) that used AS/400 with JD
Edwards software. It is a fairly nice system, to be sure, and a very nice
database, except for the times we had to enter orders in twice, and stuff
like that. Originally, Warranty (the department I worked in) had a repairs
database that was written for a System 38-based thing, and that never
integrated well with JD Edwards. And neither really did the replacement
database, but it did work a little bit better.
Anyhow, the IT managers there originally set up terminals, but later
replaced them with PCs running RUMBA on Windows 3.1. Shortly before
I left, those got upgraded to NT workstation 4.0. For my work, that
was a big improvement.
And the IT managers there were shit-scared about virii, and so enacted
policies that only "shelfware" could be loaded onto PCs, and then only
by IT personnel. No way would they let Linux in the door, even if one
tried to prove to them that the best way to avoid virii is to not run
DOS or Windows in the first place!!!
>What Mr Amaru has missed though, is where Linux has strengths that the AS/400
>lacks.
Certainly. A department-based Linux server would have helped our
department immensely. It could have been used for any number of things,
like print services (we had two printers, an aging midframe-like dot
matrix printer, and a laser printer, and the AS-400 controlled both, had
to do the postscript conversions, and other stuff), and it could be used
for other services as well. One key point is that it could have been used
as a mirror host for our central database. Often for whatever reasons, such
as sleeper jobs failed, or the backup ran out of tape, we'd come to work
early in the AM to find out that the computer was down and we could do no
work until it came up. Often it might not come up until mid-AM or even
afternoon. Surely, if we had a Linux box in there we could still enter orders
and check receipts and other stuff, and then upload it to the AS/400 when
it was available.
But no, the IT people would never have gone for that. ;(
>investigate Linux is at best someone afraid of change or too lazy to do some

Right. I talked to a few people while I was there about Linux, and they
basically said that they didn't know Unix. Oh well. Here I am, not an
IT professional or anything, and I'm the only person in the company that
uses Linux (or anything other than M$ or apple) at home, and I can't
help out in that arena because I don't have experience as a sysadmin or
whatever.

You sound like the most intolerant right-winger by your gross
generalizations of a few crazies to the entire right-wing community.
However, I have also noted you opinions (if you aren't just trolling
with absurdity) are indeed an embodiment of the most gross and
heinous left wing propaganda that I have ever heard. That doesn't
mean that you are necessarily crazy, but I suspect that someone

I couldn't find the file in a search, so why wasn't it added in the

Also if I nned to reinstall a package, which one is it?

Hmm. I had not realized that the price of CDRW had fallen that
quickly. This makes CDRW a potential good thing, of course. Too bad I
don't have a CDRW-capable drive :(.

What about timing issues? I've read that if the CDR (or CDRW) doesn't
get written to consistently enough, the resultant media (especially
in the case of CDR) is coastered. At least with tape, you can use tar
(with a reasonably decent buffer size) and go.

Can someone out there who's using this drive with Linux puhleeeze send
me an e-mail walking me through the steps to get it going???? (Sigh!)
Thanks, in advance, for any assistance anyone can offer.

You're screwed. That printer's functions are manipulated directly by
software on the host machine. It doesn't have an internal image buffer
or a page description language interpreter or anything.
(That's why it's so cheap.)
Lexmark refuses to release programming info for fear non-Microsoft
drivers would cost too much to support. If you still can, return this
printer for a refund or store credit on the grounds that it is not
compatible with your PC and unsupported by its manufacturer.
