Thanks,

I was hoping there was some arcane program called the "map installer" that I
didn't know about that would magically make everything work. Oh well!

Any other ideas?

That's what I love about Linux.. So many choices. Everyone who replied had
a different choice :). Seriously though, I use gftp under Gnome, and the
basic CLI ftp client. It may not look sexy, but it gets the job done.
Using the commands prompt and mget let you download multiple files, so it
can be just as efficient.

Hope that helps,

I have a Slack 7 box and a SCO 5.05 box in the same network. When I
telnet from the Linux box to Unix box, the function keys and many other
keys don't work properly. For example, backspace is the interrupt key.
I tried to turn the TERM to ansi after connecting to Unix, but the prob
continues...

Any ideas ???

Hello,
I was hoping someone could tell me how to modify the boot.ini file in NT
to allow me to use the NT boot loader with Linux RedHat 6. I know I could
install LILO and have it boot NT, but this is not the solution I want. (I

Thanx in advance,

Yeah I'd considered that, but space is verrry tight on these boxen, and the
500k+ libm.so that I'd have to load for adjtimex was a bit of a killer.

Fortunately I was able to solve the problem by shoehorning adjtimex onto a
system and using it to calc the drift, then writing my own teeny-tiny
program which will allow me to set the tick & frequency from the command
line.

So far, it's working great.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Subject: Linux compilation problem
Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2000 21:28:50 GMT

Hi,

I've been attempting to recompile the linux kernel for the first time
to bring in some configuration changes which I need to perform. The
configuration stage was fine and dandy, as was the bulk of the actual
compilation (I didn't see any error messages). The problem came right
at the end of the compilation, resulting in the absence of the kernel
image file (bzImage). The exact lines from the end of the compilation
screen dump are as follows:

ld -m elf_i386 -Ttext 0x100000 -e stext arch/i386/kernel/head.o
init/main.o init/version.o \
        arch/i386/kernel/kernel.o arch/i386/mm/mm.o kernel/kernel.o

/usr/src/linux-2.0.36/arch/i386/lib/lib.a -o vmlinux

make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.0.36/arch/i386/boot'

The same error occurs when compiling using 'make zImage' as well.

The kernel is 2.0.36 which is operating in a RedHat 5.2 distribution
on a 486 DX2 - 66 with 12Mb RAM. The gcc version is 2.7 (I think).

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. If I'm posting to the

if the backspace key is the only thing bothering you then just do 'stty
erase (hit backspace key)' whenever you log into the unix box from the
linux box.

Hi,

I think I found a bug in localedef or localeconv.

If you take the fr_CA locale and edit it so that you put p_cs_precedes
to 1, but leave n_cs_precedes to 0 and recompile the locale binaries
using localedef, it looks like n_cs_precedes gets set to 1 also. (the
structure returned by localeconv contains a '1' for both p_cs_precedes
and n_cs_precedes)

Can you please let me know if you ever experienced this kind of problem
before...

the code/libraries must preferably be for C/C++ but java/perl are OK as

to handle the modules according to your kernel.
Did you type lilo to update the new config ?

True, but isn't that just another good argument for not

"Not a directory" is an insane error message, but I see ("bzIamage")
that this may not be an accurate transcription. Have you installed
as86 and ld86 (in the "bin86" or "dev86" package), which should be
found in /usr/bin?

Linux don't recognize new card now! How I can to install new network

Yes, this is what I did as my quick fix. But it really looks strange,
and causes problems if we are already in A/B. I want a better
solution.

Notice that the GNU pre-processor does cd into the directory for doing
the include. And that's what I like.

Like more arguments are _needed_?! But for these heretics
it's probably better to use env(1) than something like

% (setenv TERM vt100 ; exec telnet some.host)
