Slackware uses libc5 while SuSE 6.1 uses glibc2 and G2 works
OK with it. It crashes if a .ram file that you try to access
doesn't exist.
Try on my site the "Rendez vous des Cadiens". Jim seems to have
problems and I think the files aren't there. G2 freezes and a
kill -9 is the only way out. If the station is there it works good.
This is an alpha version and it has it's bugs but they aren't
related to SuSE.

Subject: A Redhat 6.0 Perl DBI to Mysql Question
Date: Mon, 05 Jul 1999 00:57:11 -0400
I recently upgrade my box to Rh 6.0 an now I can't get the DBI modules
to work under 6.0.
I'm using mysql, which is working fine, I can access the server via the
client with no problems.
I just can't get my Perl scripts to find the modules. It says it can't
find them but "I think" they are in the right places"
I get:
[haverje@electron test]$ ./index.pl
Can't locate loadable object for module DBI in @INC (@INC contains:
/usr/lib/perl5/5.00503/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.00503

.) at ./index.pl line 14
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ./index.pl line 14.
when I try to run a test script, which I had working on a rh 5.2
system. I think the issue is with the DBI modules more so that the
version of RH. But I'm having real problems getting it to work.
Here are the RPMS I have installed.
MySQL-client-3.22.22-1
MySQL-3.22.22-1
MySQL-devel-3.22.22-1
DBI-perl-bin-0.93-1

I'm assuming you want a GUI setup for the internet. What Linux + kernel =
version
and window manager are you running? Linux doesn't have one single interf=
ace
like Win 9x to set up internet access so once that's established someone =

Because I still cannot use the mouse in any text based application, I am
guessing the problem is not related to Midnight Commander or Lynx. I
know that these programs support the mouse...
Just to know if the problem was in the gpm package 1.7.5-3 provided in
my RH6.0 CDrom, I have installed an older version but the problem is
still the same.
(Before RH6.0 I used for a few weeks a Debian distribution and I didn't
have this problem).
Supposing gpm have nothing to do with this problem, what other
program/package the mouse management depends on?
(I remind you that in X, with or without gpm, my mouse works)

At least the user mode virtual machine is the same as the real one.

I use Applix Presents. It's a little different than Powerpoint, but very flexible.
I'm not
sure if the latest version will read a PPT or not. But it's excellent for generating
presentations.
You can also export you PPT presentation to HTML and move them over that way. It's a
little
more work though.

Below is the README from the Creative beta driver. It seems they've
compiled it to work with the latest official RedHat kernels in the 5.2
and 6.0 distributions.
Other than this I don't know anymore.
Installation Instructions for Soundblaster Live! Linux drivers (v0.2
beta)
==========================================================================
Kernel Versions
===============
Modularized drivers are available for:
- Kernel 2.0.36-0.7 (non-SMP) (Redhat 5.2)
- Kernel 2.2.5 (non-SMP)
The drivers have been tested on these versions of the Linux kernel and
will
probably not work with other kernel versions. If you are using the
2.2.5 version with kernels other than 2.2.5, try "insmod -f sblive.o"
Requirements
============
- The kernel must be compiled with soundcard support as a module
(CONFIG_SOUND_MODULE = 1)
- There must be no soundcard drivers compiled into the kernel
Automated Installation
======================
1. If you are using a non-Redhat distribution, proceed to Manual
Installation
2. Run ./install_sblive
3. If the program reports that the driver is installed, you are done.
4. If there are any error messages, proceed to Manual Installation.
Manual Installation
===================
1. Determine your kernel sound modules installation location
(usually /lib/modules/2.x.y/misc)
2. Copy the appropriate driver to that location as sblive.o
(eg. /lib/modules/2.x.y/misc/sblive.o)
3. Unload all existing soundcard drivers, including soundcore
4. Remove all old soundcard references from /etc/conf.modules
5. Add a new reference to the SBLive driver in /etc/conf.modules:

Well, it says it can't find DBI.pm and it tells you the four directories
it's checking.
Have you checked to see where your DBI.pm is ?
$ find /usr/lib/perl5 -name DBI.pm

I think this is way old.
$ perl -we 'use DBI; print "$DBI::VERSION\n";'

I'd recommend updating from CPAN:

Subject: Solving the 1024 cylinder LILO problem
Date: 5 Jul 1999 05:07:32 GMT
One of the most frequent FAQ/complaints about LILO is the requirement
to maintain an entire partition inside the first 1024 cylinders, so
that BIOS can see all the blocks of a bootimage located there.
Often, the first 1024 cylinders and then some are occupied by
an alien file system called "C:" that folks are understandably reluctant
to adjust.
Microsoft seems to get around this with a special write call, used by
its SYS and FORMAT utilities, which can write a bootimage where it is
guaranteed visible to BIOS, even if the whole partition isn't.
I played around with a program to make a BIOS-accessible copy of a file.
I can write a block, or several blocks, and check whether they are
BIOS-accessible using the same ioctl( FD, HDIO_GETGEO, &hdprm)
that lilo uses to build its map.
This works for small files, such as /boot/message or even /boot/lilo-map
if you try enough times. But the chances of randomly writing a
350 KB bzImage onto a half-full 2000-cylinder /dev/hda1 and having
all the blocks land in the first 1023 are astronomically small.
I tried closing and reopening the file to write each block.
(fopen(filename, "a");.) The problem is, once I've appended the first
BIOS-inaccessible block onto a file, there seems to be no way to
remove it. rewind(3)'ing and closing doesn't do anything; the block is
still there.
All I need to do is adjust the size of a file downward, without moving it.
That is, throw away its last block.
Is there any way to do this from user space?
If not, it seems the only ways around the problem are another ioctl
or splitting the bzImage into hundreds of 1- or 2-block files that
can be written independently, and teaching lilo how to concatenate them
again. And an ioctl that says "this file must be written on BIOS-accesible
blocks" would be rather messy.

If you do, you would see that (a) the Internet 2 is little more than a figment
