Sounds like you're playing with a SiS 6326-based card. This card is
supported by 3.3.3.1.

Take out no_accel, no_linear, add no_bitblt, and remove the Dac_speed
line. This works for me:
Identifier "Diamond Speedstar A50"
VendorName "Diamond"
BoardName "A50"
VideoRam 8192
Option "no_bitblt"
Option "no_imageblt"
Option "sw_cursor"
# Option "no_accel" # Use this if acceleration is causing problems

Try the settings above. If it still doesn't work, post a follow-up and
let us know what chipset you're using.

Except that apache runs as nobody, or at least should if you
value security. If the server can't read it, it can't send
it; if the server can read it, anyone hitting that url can
read it. This is not going to achieve the desired results.
There are many ways of doing this with apache. Take a look
at the on-line manual for apache (default on a new install
would be http://localhost) for tips on how to do it properly.

When setting up a really serious Oracle system one would be using a
lot of discs,
the last one I did was a 7-disc system (and that was a small system).
One spreads
the tablespaces and other files out carefully to maximise performance
(unless
you are using RAID 5).
With the typical small Linux system you don't have that number of
spindles, just
create the directories pread out as well as you can across your discs
and let the
database creator get on with it.
If it is 8.0.5 you have applied the glibc patch haven't you ?

I haven't worked with Samba yet, but you don't need Samba to share the
cable modem link. I'm currently sharing my link without problems.
Check out http://www.cablemodeminfo.com/LinuxCableModem.html for some
info and links to other resources.
It's not that difficult, but please remember to ensure that you're
firewalling properly with Linux NOW. I've rejected connections from 4
countries in under 2 weeks, and my first unauthorized connection attempt
was less than 24 hours after I connected my cable modem up.

Wordstar is capable of working through a serial dumb terminal. You're able
to edit the terminal command strings to anything you like. You also don't
have to use strings; you can insert machine-code subroutines if necessary.
My copy of Wordstar predates msdos 2.0, so it doesn't know about
subdirectories, and it doesn't know about CGA color character graphics.
I don't know where you get it, though :(

Help!
1) I would like to know how to setup networking so that I can "rsh" from
one machine to another in different subnets without having to enter the
password assuming both computers knows about my account (username and
group)???
2) Additionally, how can I "rcp" from those 2 machines in different
subnets (manual says rcp uses rsh).
Basically, the two situations failed on me, eventhough I have tried the
ff approaches: for both, added entries in file "/etc/hosts" for each
other; for both, added "ALL: .foo.com" or "ALL: [EMAIL PROTECTED]" or "
ALL: [email protected]" in "/etc/hosts.allow".
Thanks in advanced for any help.

You didn't really answer the previous posters message? Did you try to
upgrade to glibc2 using the HOWTO? This is almost for sure the problem you
have run across, as most of the time, umount will shutdown any daemons
holding a lock on /usr. If you followed the HOWTO in install glibc2 though,
there is a section that most people don't read very carefully, and thus fall
into a trap. They move the old libc files to /usr/lib5 or some odd thing.
Since the libraries are required for startup and shutdown and since they are
on the /usr partition now, the /usr partition can not be unmounted because
the shutdown scripts are still using them. Catch 22. You need to move the
files to your root partition. I would do:
# mkdir -p /lib5/lib
# cd /dir/where/libc5/is
# cp /dir/where/libc5/is/* /lib5/lib
add "/lib5/lib" to the top of /etc/ld.so.conf
# ldconfig -v
# rm /dir/where/libc5/is/*
Now you should be able to reboot.

you need an .rhosts or hosts.equiv file. If you put it in your
subdirectory, you can log in without a password.
Doesn't have anything to do with the subnets (we use 10.1.1.x, 10.1.2.x,
192.168.1.x and real IPs) as that's your router's job to ensure they're
getting to the right address.
Look up .rhosts and hosts.equiv. Be careful with these, if someone
breaks one box, they've got them all.

You can mount the dos-partition using:
mount -t vfat the-partition-you-wish-to-mount /the-mount-point
note: I use vfat because it supports long filenames, and long
filenames represented by fat can be a hassle.
where the partition typically would be /dev/hdxy with x representing the
drive number and y the partition number on that drive and /mount point the
directory in which you want the drive to appear.
To mount the partition on boot, edit /etc/fstab and add:
/dev/hdxy /the-mount-point vfat exec,dev,rw 1 1

Is this the problem, maybe?
The operative word in Win modem is "Win"" as in "I am just a glorified
serial port and I rely on Windows to do all of the processing that a real
modem would do itself"
Some manufacturers have released cheap substitutes for modems and printers
that implement hardware functions as Windows software functions instead.
The theory is that they can shave a few dollars off the price of the
hardware in this way, but the cost is that the hardware *only* works under
Win 95/8 (and maybe 3.x and NT) and even then, it sucks up a fair chunk of
CPU power.

Get a proper modem. Unless, that is, "Win modem" is just a name and not an
actual hardware type. Did the modem ever work under Linux, or did it just
work under Windows?

Oh God, not another religious war. Of the two mentioned, i personally
prefer Redhat to SuSE, and RH 5.1/5.2 to RH 6.0. I don't need everything

Given the choice, thought, I prefer slackware. call me old-fashioned,

At work, all of our UNIX machines are FreeBSD boxes. I
however run Linux on my FreeBSD box (dual-boot) and
occasionally I have to transfer files b/w my Linux box and
other BSD boxes.
I noticed that FreeBSD (our version is 2.2.8 I think) has a
really nice version of the ftp command - it shows a progress
bar (like hash mark printing), along with a percentage estimate,
and a throughput rate indicator, and an ETA display showing
how much time is remaining to complete the transfer - all in
text mode.
Is there a similar version/type of ftp for Linux ? I am running
RedHat 5.2 soon planning to run Debian 2.1.
Thanks for any info.

Subject: Re: Using rcp and rsh on machines in different subnets
Date: Fri, 23 Jul 1999 22:44:44 -0700
Hello,
Each user that needs to be able to rlogin or rcp from one system to another
(no matter which subnet they are on, as long as they can reach each other)
has to have .rhosts file in their home directory (/home/user.rhosts) on the
target system.
Also you can configure /etc/hosts.equiv file on the target machine with the
host name of incoming machine.
Good luck!
