I feel your pain. I use OS/2 (Warp 3 & Warp 4) here, as
well -- and am in the process of 'rolling out' a linux
box on the LAN, too.

I do it the 'easy' way: I have a shell account at my ISP.
I use pine for mail.
I use slrn for newsgroups.
I fire up the cartoon interface (NetScape) only when I
have to.

(My ISP's shell runs on linux -- viola! A 'control' system
to compare against when I get my own linux snafu.)

If the Exchange Server is at a high enough level, _any_ pop client can work
with it. Take your pick, there's lots of them in Unix/Linux

Could anyone point me to a comprehensive SPM howto? I'm thinking of
downloading and installing Stampede Linux, but i'm having trouble
finding command-line options and descriptions of the Stampede Package
Manager (i know the format is similar to .tgz). Even an outline on
upgrading, removing and querying commands would be appreciated.

Try ftp.freesoftware.com/pub/slackware/slackware-current/source then. The
a/ directory is the basic non-networked system, ap/ is applications, d/ is
development stuff, e/ is Emacs, gtk/, kde/ and tcl/ are exactly what they
sound like, n/ is networking stuff, t/ is TeX (IIRC), x/ is X, xap/ is X
applications, xv/ is XView (not xv the graphics viewer) and y/ is games that
don't need X to run. Somewhere in there will be those CLI utils -- probably
in a/txtutils.

Hello All,
I like some of the configuration files that are in the Caldera
Linux distribution. I also like some of the configuration files that
Red Hat uses in there package. What I would like to do is miss & mach.
I like the config files that Caldara used to config printers and modems
can I copy them into Red Hat and expect it to work?

Thanks in Advance

You might also want to have a look at FlyVideo'98.

        http://www.lifeview.com

They have W2K support and also URL links to Linux.

The application software that comes with it is quite buggy (overlay
display problem). The drivers works fine.

        I use AVI_IO (http://www.nct.ch/multimedia/avi_io/) instead.

The card uses the Conexant (formerly BrookTree) chip BT878

I am running red hat 6.2 with pppd 2.3.11

I am able to connect to my ISP just fine, but
when I try to make a connection to my companies
ppp server something goes wrong.

If anyone has some insight I would be grateful.

Here is the relevant info:

/etc/ppp/options:
========================
  ipcp-accept-remote
  ipcp-accept-local
  crtscts
  lock
  modem
  nodetach

/etc/ppp/options-work
=====================
  usehostname
  noaccomp
  nopcomp
  noipdefault
  ipcp-accept-remote
  ipcp-accept-local
  noauth
  passive
  defaultroute
  proxyarp
  lcp-echo-interval 30
  lcp-echo-failure 4
  noipx

Invoke ppp like this:
  /usr/sbin/pppd /dev/ttyS1 38400 debug file options-work

syslog debug output:

MySQL is a much more powerfull database (there are many), and there is
even a VBA script for Access available to export your data to MySQL. I
believe there is also some level of support for ODBC connections to the
database.

It could be possible that the ODBC connect would work the reverse
direction. But this would be like towing your motor home with your moped.

I see that this works, but what is a "man 7 signal"? From doing a "man man"
I see that you can put a section number in (something I didn't know).

Ok. This is good.

But, how does a person know what sections are available for an individual
command being inquired upon? For example, if I do "man 1 signal" I get "No
entry for signal in section 1 of the manual". If I do "man signal" it gives
me section 2 automatically. But If I do "man 3 signal" I get another error.
Likewise there are no sections 4, 5, or 6 for signal. But there is a section
7.

How do I get a list of available sections?

Thanks,
Micer
