Did you try running sndconfig? I have a ESS 1879 and after running that,
it worked fine.

Subject: Can't get SCO binary to execute on RH 6.0 Linux
Date: Fri, 20 Aug 1999 10:53:29 -0500
I am trying to execute a binary generated on SCO on a Linux RH6.0 system. I
get "cannot execute binary file" on the Linux system. I have compiled in on
SCO using "cc" and also "gcc" to see if that made a difference. I get the
same message in either case (however, the resultant file using "gcc" is 1/2
the size of the "cc" version). I did an rpm -qa on the Linux system and it
shows that I have "kernal-ibcs-2.2.5-15" installed.
1. Is there something I need to do special on SCO in the "make" of this
program?
2. Is there perhaps something more that needs to be done on the Linux
system to execute these programs?
Any help would be appreciated.

It would be even better if all GPL'd libraries just included this
exception in the first place. Obviously the people who put it
there wanted to promote the widest possible use of their free code
as opposed to whatever it is the rest of the FSF is thinking. Besides,
in the case of dynamic linking or 'user-does-the-link' it is not
at all clear there there is any possible copyright claim on the
distributed components that don't contain the covered work anyway.

OK. I stand corrected. This is a hardware limitation of

Yes. I create 5+GB tar archives on tape whenever I back up

If Sonny said it's true to you, then I suspect you may have not gotten
the IO ports right. I made my OPL3-SAx work by myself once, but it had
unbearble LOW volume, a couple days later, got the reply from caldera
support, says i gotten the IO ports wrong. So I correct it the volume
came back normal( the same level in Windows, at least).
Hope this helps

Same as it ever was dewd. No claim on the script. Perl scripts do

No. A core is a dump of the entire runtime memory space of your
program, including the data, stack, heap, etc. segments.
How have you "examined" them? Looking at the binary characters is not
so useful, I'll agree ;).
The proper use for a core file is:
$ gdb myapp core
Now you can examine the entire program as it existed when the core
happened: memory contents, stack, local and global variables,
etc. etc. etc.
If "myapp" was stripped then there's no debugging info so there's not
a lot you can do--but some people don't realize that if you have (or
build) a debugging version of "myapp" you can use that with the core
generated by a stripped version, no problem.

Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Pth - The GNU Portable Threads
Version 1.1
Pth is a very portable POSIX/ANSI-C based library for Unix platforms
which provides non-preemptive priority-based scheduling for multiple
threads of execution ("multithreading") inside server applications.
All threads run in the same address space of the server application,
but each thread has it's own individual program-counter, run-time
stack, signal mask and errno variable.
The thread scheduling itself is done in a cooperative way, i.e. the
threads are managed by a priority- and event-based non-preemptive
scheduler. The intention is that this way one can achieve better
portability and run-time performance than with preemptive scheduling.
The event facility allows threads to wait until various types of
events occur, including pending I/O on filedescriptors, asynchronous
signals, elapsed timers, pending I/O on message ports, thread and
process termination, and even customized callback functions.
Additionally Pth provides an optional emulation API for POSIX.1c
threads ("Pthreads") which can be used for backward compatibility to
existing multithreaded applications.
Pth was successfully tested on FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, BSDI,
GNU/Linux, Solaris, HPUX, OSF/1, AIX, IRIX, UnixWare, SINIX,
ReliantUNIX, AmigaOS and AUX. And it should should automatically
adjust itself to remaining Unix platforms, too.
Major Changes between Pth 1.0 and 1.1:
*) Enhanced setjmp/longjmp support
*) Support for SVR4/SUSv2 makecontext(2) mctx variant
*) Fixed and enhanced POSIX semantics for replacement functions
*) Barrier synchronization objects
*) Sfio support via special Pth/Sfio discipline
*) Overhauled Autoconf environment
*) Overhauled filedescriptor handling
*) Cleaned up source tree
The documentation and latest release can be found on

conserving the pitch of the original? I think I've heard

I have an AMD K6-2 300 with 48MB RAM
and it's been working fine for me - Redhat 6.0
Warp4 and Window~1 98.
It's much faster with Redhat / Gnome than with
Windoze..
Verify though that your motherboard is a Socket-7
kind, or it won't accept the AMD CPU that you buy.
(I assume it will support if what you had earlier is
Pentium MMX, but just to be sure..) Also, the board
that you have probably supports only 66MHz bus,
so 100MHz memory might not be a solution too.
Get more information about M/B, memory, CPU
etc from www.anandtech.com or www.computer-shopper.com.
They have fairly good info on these stuff..
