It is a Lite-On PNIC based card. The tulip driver supports it.
However, I have seen it not work in some Linux computers (but work
in others).

The old ones with the DEC 21140 chip on them always work on Linux
(with the tulip driver) in my experience.

Checked out ImageMagick? Command-line oriented, handles 24-bit stuff
well, processes images in N different ways... it might already be
installed on your machine; it seems to come with many distros.

Sorry not to be of any help for your question as I've yet to make my

SecurID key-fob changes every 60 secs, not 30.

Just nit-picking.

Was "NS going south if one of its windows is closed" ... well,
only thing I can say it does not happen to me since 4.72 anymore,
although I installed glibc-2.1.3 (release) at about the same
time. Upgraded to XFree-3.3.6 some time before, still running
4.7 then. WM is version 0.61.1.

Java and Javascript are disabled per default and I am not using
a distribution, so both, XFree-3.3.6 and glibc, are based on the
standard sources, self compiled.

Sorry to hear you're still having problems.

No, it won't ask for the root password. You got me there. I didn't think
of this because the only time I tried it, nothing worked right. (trashing
/lib may have had something to do with *that*...)

"money"? Slamming on SuSE for being commercial, are we? They are not the

sucks less than any other distro I've tried. I may change my mind when I
can find space for Debian to do its thing.

Since you still can telnet into it ...
[/sbin/runlevel] :: after a reboot something like N 2
... then see /etc/inittab ...
c1:1234:respawn:/sbin/agetty 9600 tty1
... and voila, agetty processes are spawned in all runlevels from 1 .. 4.

If the 2, common value for multi user mode, is not what runlevel
is telling you, then do a ...
/sbin/telinit 2
... for instance. Use some runlevel in which a getty process is supposed
to be spawned.

If you can get a login prompt that way, go to bed, have nap and
investigate further after having had some sleep.

If not, then do a /sbin/telinit S.

Cheers,
Juergen

it could be a ZIP disk with a different partition: /dev/sdc1

/dev/sdc on my machine. The N*MAI disk are partitioned as /dev/sdc1 -=20=

the original I*MEGA is /dev/sdc4.

What does 'tail /var/log/messages' tell when you 'modprobe ppa' ? The=20=

partition can be found by 'fdisk =96l /dev/sdc'

My Linux PC in the meantime, is ready for anything. Monster 3d, good

I still have those fpw windows games on CD though, Unreal, UT, Q3. Would
I be able to install them somehow and play?

From: Gary Nielson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Converting Unix to Windows stat $mtime
Date: Wed, 08 Mar 2000 21:50:13 -0500

I am having some trouble with a script I wrote that works fine under
Linux, but does not work under Windows NT. The part of the script in
question involves getting a file's modification time, comparing it with
the current time, and if it is within a certain time period, doing
something with that file.

Do I need to install Unix-like utilities on my Windows NT machine, such
as stat, to accomplish this? Is there a module for this?

Basically, this works under Unix:

($dev, $ino, $mode, $nlink, $uid, $gid, $rdev, $size, $atime, $mtime,
$ctime, $blksize, $blocks) = stat($filename);
$thetimenow = time;
$timeSinceModified = $thetimenow - $mtime;

.... and then:

sub checkModified
{
 if ($timeSinceModified > 600) {
  $outToWeb = "$basedir\\$organization";
  print "$filename moved to $organization\n";
  copy("$filename", $outToWeb);
  }

When running it under ActivePerl, I added a print statement for the
variable $timesinceModified and it is empty.
Can someone point me in the direction of information to get this to work
under WinNT? Any help appreciated. Please email reply as well.

ImageMagick seems to be a Tub-O-Shit[TM] from my few experiences
with it.

Example: I was trying to make a big animated GIF into a little one
by optimizing the frames. I tried the ImageMagick 'convert' program
to reassemble the optimized frames and saw the final GIF grow to ten
times the original (21k of source frames, 250k of output GIF).

Example: The ImageMagick 'identify' considers it useful to print
the time required to process the image in the default output, but
not stuff like how long a frame is supposed to be displayed for an
animated GIF.

Example: ImageMagick is an X program and requires X libraries to be
installed even for parts that do not display pictures.

OTOH 'convert' does seem to work (on my machine, but the my webserver
does not have the libs) so maybe I can steal the code from it.

Absolutely! My tastes tend towards computers, obscure (and not so
obscure) firearms, and boats. I get really annoyed by those "my
country, _________ is the best place to live!" types, I prefer
living ni the US, I have experience living elsewhere, but that
doesn't mean that the US is the best place for everyone.

The same can be said for OSen.

I have had no trouble with FA310TX. In RH6.1 kudzu automatically
recognized it and added "alias eth0 tulip" to /etc/conf.modules. Then it
was simply a matter of setting IP or whatever in netcfg or linuxconf.
Works flawlessly with crossover cable to laptop with FA510C. I have seen
transfer rates sometimes over 7 MB/sec.

The only problem I have heard of was that someone had trouble with it
locking up when disconnecting it from a switch, but he solved that by
using the tulip driver from the floppy that comes with it. I have not had
any trouble connecting or disconnecting it from my laptop with the
standard RH6.1 tulip driver.

I use /etc/bashrc for my system wide aliases. Also, ~/.bashrc for per user
aliases. This works for me since I use the /bin/bash shell.

Thanks for the help. I downloaded the pcmcia-cs and installed as the
README directed... and ... it worked like a charm. Can't tell you how
many times I have built a new kernel with only a few or no modules. The
build with the CONFIG_MODVERSIONS=y didn't work however. No the pcmcia
directory appears in /lib/modules/2.2.14 and the pcmcia Gold Card modem
works.
Thanks again
